My husband and I have been Marriott folks for over 20 years for both personal and business travel. We recently stayed at the Marriott in Canary Wharf London for our Thanksgiving holiday this year. This was our first time to the UK and it was a perfect location for us with easy access to the train station to go anywhere in London that we had planned out prior to our visit.
The service was impeccable from the moment we checked in. We cannot remember all the folks at checkin, but they were all wonderful! Aaron assisted us to our room to see that we got settled in and acquainted with everything.
We are Lifetime Titanium status, so the Executive Lounge is a great perk when we travel on holiday. That is where we had the pleasure of meeting Gary Nicholls upon our arrival! After traveling all day and night, we arrived earlier than expected, so we had a long rest in the lounge until our room was ready. Gary went out of his way to ensure our comfort from our long journey across the pond from the US. He was so warm and inviting. Very helpful with us navigating our first trip to London too. You can tell he takes such pride to ensure a wonderful experience at this Marriott for each and every guest as well as new visitors to London from around the world. We noticed that he and the rest of the crew made sure the lounge was always accessible and had what you needed. I loved the Lemon Ginger Tea along with the lovely biscuits. One of my favorites. Our must have when traveling is quality latte/cappuccinos daily and this lounge did not disappoint. The champagne / sparkling wine was a highlight of the evening for a nightcap from our long days exploring the sights and sounds of London. On top of it all, he educated us to the daily cuisine being served down to where the different cheeses came from. Impressive! Thank you!
The view from the lounge was beautiful overlooking the wharf and was decorated for the holidays during our stay. Loved the fresh flowers on the tables and then changed to the holiday decor during our stay. We also had an opportunity to meet Jayne. She too was so lovely and accommodating. Always a smile and laughter among the entire crew. They seemed to enjoy working there and providing excellent customer service.
My husband and I are always conscientious about recycling and Gary shared with us their new water filter system being installed as well as Londonās best practices on recycling. That is going to be huge! At home in the US we have a water filter system so to reduce unnecessary waste in the landfills. We could tell immediately that Londoners take their recycling program very seriously and we truly appreciate that for the future of our world. The US could learn a lot from the UK regarding recycling. While this Marriott may be a little older and could use some updating, your folks made sure that everything was in pristine condition and we had everything we needed to start and end our day. We fell in love with London and the people. We will return in the future and as always, will recommend friends and family to Marriott.
We also had an opportunity to frequent the lobby bar a couple of nights during our stay. Ricardo, Miguel, and Rafael were fantastic. They were the cocktail connoisseurs for my favorite gin and tonic beverages and also created a lovely hot tiddling whiskey nightcap for me. Thereās no comparison back in the states after having their exquisite creations.šøš¹ The gin selection was AMAZING! They too were so helpful with must see for us during our visit.
If you are viewing this on my Google reviews and you have the chance to visit this Marriott, say hello to everyone from La La and Stan. š„°
To the folks at the Marriott, please share with your entire team that we thank them from the bottom of our hearts for making our trip that much better. Please say hello to Gary and thank him for going above and beyond for our first...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWe had a wonderful wonderful 10 days stay at the London Marriott Canary Wharf. I searched different hotels in London and read reviews before finally deciding for this Hotel. We are Muslims with Halal diet concerns and I was travelling with my parents, both of who are senior citizens and was a bit concerned with their comfort and convenience. I am so glad that I chose this hotel despite some not so great reviews. Our experience with this hotel was great and at many points exceeded our high expectations. We booked the curve suite with executive lounge access and used mostly Uber or Taxi's for commuting. I can't say much about what the other rooms are like but the curve suite is par excellence. Views from the huge lounge are breathtaking as are from the room. The room is spacious, well planned and well furnished. The bathroom is a good size with both a shower and a bath tub. The lounge is huge, fitted with a sofa bed, one other soda and a writing desk. When I talk of the suite, I cannot find fault with anything. Size, setting, comfort, cleanliness, privacy, ambiance, everything was as a Marriott Hotel should be. The amenities in the bathroom were L'Occitane and we're amply provided. Every day the room was restocked with water bottles, coffee and tea supplies. The added touch was a daily small pack of Lotus biscuits and some chocolates which we thoroughly enjoyed. Although we didn't make much use of the Trains/metro there are three stations nearby including the underground, the Elizabeth line and the DLR. Commuting is no problem for those who have no mobility issues. We never had a problem calling a Taxi or an Uber at the hotel. The hotel entrance did seem a bit underwhelming because it opens in a small street with doesn't have much going for it but don't be fooled by that. The lobby, although not too huge is bright and welcoming. The front shown in the pictures is actually not the entrance point as it opens up on a pedestrian walkway, which has the beautiful Thames on the other side. Coming to the service, I cannot appreciate enough the way we were taken care of by everyone at the hotel. I would specially like to mention Ms Katrina and Mr Bojan at the front desk, who immensely helped us in the booking process. It was because of them that our initial bookinhg of 7 days through the Bonvoy app was then converted into a full 10 day stay. Had they not been so prompt, helpful and courteous we might have looked at our second option and another favourite Hilton Hotel chain. Also Ms Sukanya, from the customer care dept, in the executive lounge was always pleasant and readily helpful. I would also like to specially praise the staff at the executive lounge for their excellent customer dealings. The staff at the door and for the baggage help were also keen and readily helpful. When we reached, the staff welcoming us was well informed of our arrival, my concerns of travelling with senior citizens, halal food availability and went out of their way to make out trip as pleasant as possible. Ms Sukanya, sent us a fridge in the room to make sure my mother's diabetes Medicine was well stored. The executive lounge staff every day ensured that Halal food was available for us and the lounge manager (I'm forgetting her name) went out with us to show us the directions to the nearby malls. We observed the warm welcome and exceptional care of the executive lounge staff with all attendees, every day that we were there. The executive Lounge had great views but was a bit small. It was well stocked with beverages and snacks throughout the day and in the evening hors d'oeuvre and desserts were served. The evening snack was a nice collection of variety of salads, a protein dish with sides, some fruits and a cheese platter. Nuts, chips and crackers were available in the evening as were they...

Staff were friendly and welcoming on check-in which is always a good start to a stay. The location across from Canary Wharf looked a wonderful view so when I checked into room 709 with a view of West India Quay DLR I was quite happy. The room was fairly spacious and overall while the room was slightly dated I looked forward to seeing the sunrise and sunset reflecting on the glass towers of Canary Wharf. The room had a Chaise lounge and work desk and a decent sized TV with a good sized bathroom with decent water pressure for the shower.
I wanted to start with the negative experience first of 16+ bed bug bites I encountered when staying in my room. I went to bed late in the evening after returning from dinner at Big Easy Canary Wharf Restaurants and lay in bed to watch a bit of TV. I felt a few stings but didn't think much of it as was tired and guessed maybe a minor or something insignificant. In the morning they felt itchy but i put some moisturizer on them and got dressed and went about my day.
But when I returned home my wife was able to check and notice 16+ inflamed bites on my lower back/butt so I raised the issue to the hotel via email and phone call. The hotel advised the new guest in the room had not complained about any issues but after sending photos of the bites they advised they had blocked the room from further guests and scheduled a visit from Ecolab their pest protection company.
I did not want to rush to leave a review before I knew more about the serious nature of my bites and if the property pest inspection found more bed bugs. Below is the final correspondence from the Marriott London Marriott Canary Wharf Hotel & Executive Apartments front office team. The impact of the bites lasted more than a few weeks and were extremely itchy even with bite cream applied multiple times a day.
The hotel staff were kind about the situation and showed empathy for the bed bug bites but seemed based on their response it wasn't a big deal not what I would expect from a 5 star hotel. I've had more proactive steps from finding a handful of peanut M&Ms from a previous guest staying at DoubleTree by Hilton Royal Parc Soestduinen.
The downstairs GYM was ok not the best I've seen in a Marriott hotel and they had the uncomfortable road bike style cycling machines instead of the normal exercise bikes. Maybe it was tailored to their usual Canary Wharf audience???
The room didn't have any bottles of water but instead a refillable glass water bottle to save on plastic waste which was a good step forward for the hotel. There was tea & coffee making facilities and a in-room safe that was bolted to the wardrobe unlike at Inhabit Southwick Street where the in-room safe could be lifted out and carried away.
The good point was plenty of powerpoints around the room with USB ports and plugs on both sides of the bed as too often powerpoints are only on one side of the bed. Overall the noise levels were very low considering the hotel was in London and next to a DLR train station but not as quite as the hub by Premier Inn London King's Cross hotel rooms.
The value wasn't the best considering the age of the hotel as many recent reviews have highlighted but breakfast was not included and I recall them saying it was £55 if you pay in the morning or £45 if you pre-book.
Would I stay at this hotel again? No it's unlikely based on the value for money but more so because of the bed bug experience and there are plenty of other hotel options...
