The Traffic Light Tree, located at 5TG, Trafalgar Way, Blackwall, London, is a unique and eye-catching piece of public art that has become a distinctive landmark in the area. Created by French sculptor Pierre Vivant, this intriguing installation features a tree-like structure adorned with 75 sets of traffic lights, each arranged in a seemingly random and chaotic pattern.

Standing at eight meters tall, the Traffic Light Tree mimics the shape of a natural tree, but instead of leaves and branches, it is composed entirely of traffic signal lights. The lights continually change color, creating a dynamic and ever-changing visual spectacle that captures the attention of passersby and adds a playful, whimsical element to the urban landscape.

Installed in 1998 at the junction of Heron Quays Roundabout before being moved to its current location on Trafalgar Way, the sculpture was intended to reflect the frenetic pace of modern urban life and the constant flow of traffic in the area. It also serves as a commentary on the complexities and rhythms of city living, symbolizing the perpetual motion and unpredictability of urban environments.

The Traffic Light Tree has become a popular attraction and a favorite subject for photographers, drawing both locals and tourists to its vibrant and unconventional design. Its presence adds a touch of artistic flair to Blackwall and serves as a reminder of the intersection between art, technology, and everyday life.

Overall, the Traffic Light Tree is a fascinating and thought-provoking piece of public art that enhances the cultural landscape of London, inviting viewers to pause and appreciate the creativity and humor embedded in the...

I don’t understand why people love this traffic light so much irs been here as long as I can remember it’s something I’ve grown up around since I was a kid so it’s nothing special to me I think it is slightly interesting obviously because it isn’t a normal traffic light but still normal for me. People usually have car races and meets here at night obviously but it’s very rare. It’s a traffic light and during the day you can’t really see it light up so if you are interested in visiting it then go when it’s dark you don’t have to pay or need a ticket to visit it or take pictures...

I went there two years ago at Sunset, it was not operating. Went one year ago after sunset, and it was not operating. Going to go next week and try it for the third time. If you're going to install a piece of art like this, you need to make sure you have the funds and the maintenance to keep the lights on. Either that or take it down. Edit: Went in October 2023, and it was finally working. Looked beautiful! Went right after sunset and got some great pics.

This has been on my list of things to see for a while it was definitely worth the visit a few of the lights wasn't working but the majority was so didn't really notice. What would have made it truly amazing would have been to make it interactive by adding crossing call buttons that changes all lights red and lightning green man with the beeping that would really have made it better but it is a amazing thing to see working
