Bilmonte has incredible ratings and they are completely justified. If I'm honest, this is some of the most flavour sense gelato I've ever tried in my life. Had double pistachio, extra dark salted chocolate, mandarin, and a special batch of vanilla.
Double pistachio was incredible. I do believe the double descriptor comes from the pistachio syrup woven into the serving. With chunks of
Extra dark salted chocolate was thick and earthy. Flavour dense and a colour that meant business. Tastes of very high quality.
Mandarin was recommended by the staffer and I wouldn't have considered it otherwise. Probably the most surprising taste of the day. The depth of flavour was incredible, starting with a tangy, distinct, and very uniform orange flavour. "Single origin" came to mind. It ended with a tart and slightly bitter finish, but was never overly citrus in its presentation. Was definitely not a sorbet profile that I was expecting. Would 100% recommend.
The vanilla was billed as the flavour of the day, literally. The owner had sourced a small batch of vanilla from Madagascar and had made this gelato. The flavour was rich and intense. Was probably the best vanilla I've ever had in my life.
Bonus: had a sample of the house flavour "bilmonte". I cannot recall everything about the flavour, but it feels like it was caramel or toffee as a base, with some nuts and crunchy bits or flakes. Would order this again.
Finally, the staff was a massive fan of the food. She was so knowledgeable and passionate about what she was selling, that it really rounded out the experience.
If there was one complaint about this place, it would be that they need a larger rubbish bin, as the existing one is overflowing due...
Read moreBilmonte definitely lived up to its hype! The shop has limited seating around one large table. Unfortunately when we arrived a large group of people were occupying most of the seats and we had to opt in for take out.
Arrived late in the evening to a queue outside the shop, it moved relatively quickly. To my surprise, when it was my turn, they did not rush me to orders and instead I was being given a very succinct summary of some of the flavours, recommendations and popular orders.
The gelato, I felt was denser and creamier than what you would expect from gelato. That being said, my favourites are the Double Pistachio and Bilmonte. The Double Pistachio is an extra creamy version of the usual one, while the Bilmonte I believe was a mix of various nuts. It tasted like nougat and I really enjoyed it. I also had the Extra Dark Salted Chocolate but it is very strong and I didn’t enjoy it as much as the other two flavours.
The Belgian chocolate filled tiny cone was also a very surprising addition, the chocolate solidify immediately when poured on top of the gelato, adding an extra layer of texture and flavour to the already excellent ice cream. It makes what’s already good...
Read moreOn May 30, 2025, we visited Bilmonte as a group of six people. Among our order, we requested strawberry ice cream in a cone. The staff member refused to serve it in a cone, saying the ice cream was “freshly made,” hadn’t frozen properly, and was too soft to hold its shape. He offered to serve it in a cup instead.
That should have been a red flag – if the product isn’t in a condition to be served normally, something is likely wrong with its consistency or temperature. Unfortunately, two people from our group (an adult and a 4-year-old child) who ate only the strawberry ice cream became seriously ill later that day, suffering from severe stomach problems. The rest of our group, who had other flavors from the same place, experienced no symptoms at all.
This kind of situation is absolutely unacceptable, especially for a place with such a strong reputation. Ice cream should be safe to eat, and if there’s any doubt about the condition or safety of a product, it is the responsibility of the staff to withhold it from sale – not just mention that it’s too soft.
We strongly advise against visiting. This is no longer just about taste – it’s...
