Something is wrong here in this independent chain. They are way overcharging for 'independent coffee'. £15. For 250 grams (this is not the wholesale price). I felt that my brother had been pushed into the sale by hitting the politeness button in him. I, myself, went in to refund the loss but ended up getting the beans ground down just by not being self-assured. As I left, I felt undone and had cost my brother £15.00 by just not saying 'no'. It felt wrong. Staying away from here forever.
Further to Bob's your Uncle coffee place reply (below), I do not think I was rude, false, or as the reply below stated. These are our different views.
I did reply to the server about what type of coffee pot was to be used as he talked to me. It turns out it is a stove top. He had mentioned two other names. I said the coffee pot was on the stove.
I could have "used" my voice as the reply below insists. But in the moment, I did not (I have said above about not being self-assured). The server was already grinding the coffee down by that point. Hence, the push from the server (in my opinion). No other offer was made ( i.e., 'Would you like a refund'). Instead, it went to a discussion about the different coffee makers.
If I had my wits about me, I could have just started the conversation with "Can this coffee be refunded rather than the coffee beans being ground down". Hindsight is a great thing, but it is after the fact.
I did ask how much this coffee costs. When told, I was shocked and understood the unhappiness by the original purchaser. I said to the server: "That's expensive." He said nothing. I took the coffee bag back and said, "I would not pay for that." It would help if a high price is advertised clearly to allow the purchaser to be aware before being requested payment. It allows customers thinking time.
I wanted to say is: "This is too much money for 250 grams. May it be refunded. " I know it could not because the server had opened the bag to grind the beans down. If the server had offered a refund, that would have helped so much more. I had been thrown by the servers' immediate offer to grind it down. This is my point on the pushing of the customer for a sell and not allowing the customer thinking time.
Buying for the Oddy Knoccky website at least offers a discount to customers in some form (even with the living wage argument). As for the wholesale price, that is for Uncle Bob to reveal.
I may be deemed rude, false, and all that. But it is my honest review. That is how I felt...
Read moreI like it here! It’s the only place in South Croydon that reminds me of East London, where I moved here from.
Admittedly I came here more regularly before I moved to the area. Back when I was doing weekly flat viewings I would be sure to pop in for a coffee every single visit whereas now I live here I tend to sort my own coffee/snacks at home.
That said, I do still like to pop here from time to time as a little treat. However please note that many reviews mention the cost of the food vs value for money and unfortunately, I have to agree. It’s my one downside of Bobs. The prices are a little high for what you get.
For instance, my pics are of the Bobs Breakfast Bun I got the other day - Scrambled eggs, Monterey Jack cheese, caramelised onions and Chipotle mayo. It cost £8.75. Nearly £9 for hardly much of anything! Granted, it was tasty. The brioche bun in particular was very nice. But it was quite small and not much of the fillings either. Disappointing for £9. Three more £’s and I could get a very generous portion of chicken Pho or a noodle stir fry up the road!
So overall, a nice place, lovely staff, good coffee & menu choices BUT unfortunately not always value for money when it comes...
Read moreI came to this cafe with a friend to have a coffee and I just starting to have a 1/2 yogurt with cake with me which I was having while I drink my coffee and I was told that the policy of the cafe is not eating inside of the premises food from somewhere else . Please see the picture is it inside the premises ? Very rude person . This table is actually in the halloway. Customer service is poor as counter was very argumentative saying that I shouldn’t eat inside premises in front of other customers. Very Bad experience in a day out with my best friend . Never ever will comeback . No one will force me to buy food if I don’t want it . I pay council tax to eat in the street if I want it Just don’t want to argue with people with lack of happiness in doing their job . Off to drink a none tasty coffee, full milk to be...
