🚇 Crofton Park 🍺 £5.20 Amstel
The Brockley Jack is located on a busy stretch of road in Crofton Park SE4. The nearest station is Crofton Park, Honor Oak and Brockley stations are also close by.
This majestic pub was built in 1898. Before being named the Brockley Jack, an inn had stood here known as The Crooked Billet, built in the eighteenth century. The pub is reputedly named after Jack Cade, leader of the 1450 Kentish Uprising.
This is a large High Street pub that is traditionally decorated with a few contemporary touches here and there. The servery stretches down the middle with the bar area wrapping around to a dining area at the rear. My favourite section was the carpeted area to the right which is covered with dark wood panels and coloured glass with a door leading through to the 50 seat theatre. At the back of the pub is a large patio Beer garden.
This Greene King pub offers a familiar beer selection which included a couple of craft and four cask ales. I decided on an Amstel, my pint was a bit flat, price point was reasonable at just over a fiver. The food menu is traditional pub grub, Fish & Chips costs £11.19.
I arrived mid-afternoon on an overcast day in May. The pub was fairly quiet with an older local crowd in attendance. The atmosphere was chilled, a chart playlist played in the background and there was horse racing on in the corner which had a few punters engaged. The service was good, the chap who served me was friendly and pleasant.
In London, It is rare to find a pub of this size still in existence. In today’s pub climate it is so difficult to fill them up and make them viable. It was great to see this stunning boozer trading and serving the local community. This may be a chain pub but The @brockleyjackofficial is well worth a visit to admire this glorious building alone.

Read moreWhat an amazing bar. It’s so big but it has all types of seating areas, each accommodating all sorts of group sizes, yet each feeling clean, cosy and inviting. It also has a lovely sun trap of a beer garden hidden at the back. Luigi, Woody and the rest of their team provided superb 5* service and the food was amazing. We took advantage of their special offer of two mains for a a such a reasonable price (I think it was £13.99 for two mains) and the tacos were simply delicious! The bar is two minutes from Crofton Park station and by the start of the shortcut path to the Honor Oak crematorium. We only discovered this amazing place when we got off the train, having arrived early we stopped for a stiffener before the service. So glad we did. Luigi was as refreshing as the drinks he served and the atmosphere so lovely that after the service we suggested going back there. The beer garden was the perfect place to gather, to laugh, cry and chat about our departed friend whilst enjoying good food, great drinks and wonderful service. (I bet the bar rocks at night - it has that vibe. Very cool without trying ;) Special offers on the food in our large group was such a gift too as one person was paying for the food and he was very happy with the bill. Don’t know about per person, ‘most of my spend’ below was drinks which also have to say were very reasonably priced with a great top shelf. A huge thank you to The Brockley Jack team for doing such great work, individually and as a team. You each made a difference and your efforts are...
Read morePre booked a table for 17 for Saturday evening (8/2/25)to celebrate 60th 7th 2nd Birthdays Sophie and Kayleigh took booking and answered all my questions. They were very friendly and asked if possible could I let them know prior food order as this will help chef on the night My second visit Sophie and Kayleigh again were warm and friendly when gave the food order On the evening of meal some guests arrived later than expected. Again Sophie Kayleigh and Sara were very understanding and friendly. Served quickly with drink orders Meals started to arrive served by Dyzeno . It was being cooked slowly resulting in some of the party finishing meal before others served. Dyzeno (server)was apologetic throughout. Unfortunately he was also having to deal with other disgruntled customers Sides ordered were getting cold before dinners had arrived Chef Roy presented lovely, tasty, good portion size food, value for money We later found out that he was the only chef in the kitchen ?? Words fail me on a Saturday evening. Especially knowing large party booking. Unable to comment as we were not able to order puddings by the time last meal had been served and eaten kitchen was closed…….disappointed children and adults Knowing it was a Saturday night large booking plus other bookings and walk in diners there should’ve been more staff in the kitchen to get food cooked and served in a timely manner. There is no excuse We come together and should’ve eaten our meal together We had a nice evening due to the above staff I...
