First time at new Browns. Exciting! Well that excitement didn’t last long. Took us to the far side of the restaurant which was completely empty apart from one other table. Noticed it didn’t look that much different from harvester. Sat down and it was freezing. Asked the waitress to put some heating on. She said ‘I’ll ask my manger’ not so sure if it got turned on as I had my coat over my legs. Waitress was sweet but obviously not had any training. Ordered our food - only one choice for me as a vegan - asparagus and sweet potato curry. Sounds nice - came out and it was a huge pile of green beans with 3 pieces of sweet potato in very watery curry. Told the waitress and she said she would change it which she did. My friend asked the reason it wasn’t what it said on the menu. She said the chef made a mistake! The manager came over - not greatly helpful but offered to take off the bill. Only half of it was taken off!! My friends’ dinners were ‘ok’ chicken and chips and steak and chips. - small portions and no skilled required. No atmosphere as completely empty even though my friend that booked it had received an email saying ‘ do not be late otherwise we will give yr table away’!! Will not be returning unless changes are made. So after saying I’d never come back, I came in a Sunday and I gave to say, the vegan roast was absolutely delicious!!!!
Went today again - AWFUL! Roast potatoes were just boiled; nut loaf was pile of undercooked mush; then to top it all, waitress gave me meat gravy which I poured all over my dinner! Wait staff were...
Read moreA shame that such a nice venue is lacking when it comes to the all important service and quality of food. When we first arrived we were looked after by attentive staff. I ordered the chicken schnitzel and it was a complete disappointment. It was overcooked to the point I could hardly cut into it and the meat was as dry as a bone and chewy. My pint of beer wasn't a full pint either, something I and others I know have experienced before in this restaurant and something Browns continually fail to put right. We were given dessert menu's straight after our main meal so we asked for five minutes to decide. We waited for another 20 minutes before we could get the attention of a server. After dessert we wanted a coffee and another long wait ensued. Our server took our order and after waiting another 15 minutes we asked where the coffees were only to be told the server had forgotten to put the order through! Overall a poor experience of Browns in terms of service and the quality of the food especially considering this was a Saturday evening and the restaurant wasn't even 50% full. We won't be back for a while, Browns need to actually do something about the comments they receive and up their game considering there are plenty of other (and better) places to eat with...
Read moreWe went here for an evening meal. We had starters, which were ok. I think the main complaint was about the main meal. There were 3 of us, and we ordered two fish pies and a pork belly. The pork belly was ok, but both the fish pies came out hot around the edges but cold in the middle. They were sent back, they said they would make new ones. When they returned, one was fine, but the other was still cold in the middle so this was returned as well. The manager came over to ask us about the meal and said that they had tested it and it was actually warm in the middle and not cold. We felt that this was not the case and said that if possible please just heat this pie up more. They had suggested making another one, and we didn't think this was necessary and just to heat the old one up. The pie came out for the third time and this time it was piping hot (which was good). They took £10 off the bill as a gesture of goodwill, to me this was poor and they should have taken that meal off the bill.
The food was a letdown, this was our first time there after it had been recommended to us. Personally, it was lovely to have a piano being played live but it was a bit too loud and made it hard to talk. Personally I would...
