A North London Gem – The Best Café I’ve Ever Visited in 30 Years I’ve lived and worked in North London for over 30 years, and as a seasoned café-goer, I can say without hesitation that Café Anglais in Colindale (NW9) is by far the best café I have ever come across. The menu is wonderfully extensive (even for vegetarians), the food is always freshly cooked, generous in portion, and consistently delicious. The prices are very reasonable - especially considering the quality and quantity you receive. The atmosphere is relaxed, spacious, and welcoming, making it perfect for breakfast, brunch, lunch or dinner. This is a proper traditional English café - the kind that’s becoming increasingly rare in London. It has that genuine warmth, informality, and charm that so many of the newer, more “stylish” places seem to lack. Café Anglais is a true family-run establishment, now spanning two generations. The current owner, Marley, proudly continues the legacy started by his father, who first opened the café 45 years ago. This family run café has built a well-deserved reputation over the past four decades, attracting a loyal local following. It’s more than just a place to eat - it’s a true community hub where people come to dine, chat, and connect. The owner (Marley) is an absolute consummate professional. He is there almost every day, ensuring every plate leaves the kitchen to his impeccable standards. Nothing is ever too much trouble - whether it’s extra beans, eggs sunny-side up, or gravy with your chips, he makes sure you get exactly what you want. His commitment to quality and customer satisfaction is second to none. The staff clearly reflect his dedication; they are polite, efficient, and attentive, always delivering meals quickly and courteously. You can tell they’ve all been trained to a very high standard. As a local family doctor, I truly admire what the owner has achieved - creating not just a café, but a warm and welcoming space that brings people together and has served the community superbly for over four decades. You never leave hungry, and I've noticed customers always leave impressed and with a big smile. Café Anglais should be the benchmark for what every café aspires to be. A true North London treasure.

As a group, I suggested convening at Cafe Anglais as it was a local point of interest for me; in the vicinity of our minibus rental. Despite being refurbished, the surroundings were friendly; vibrant and welcoming. The staff were polite and offered great customer service - I very much appreciated being able to make a bespoke salad for example (with added suggestions from the chef!) Pricing was very fair and the quality of the ingredients were way above par. Overall, it was a brilliant experience; with quality produce, excellent value for money and wonderful staff. I will definitely be a return customer to enjoy the full dining experience (this time was to go).

I've been here first time but I'm very impressed. Food and coffee was delicious for a very good value for money. Staff is very friendly and helpful and atmosphere in caffee is nice. If I compare to a starbucks or Costa I would say I had much better and tasty food and coffee here for much cheaper than in Costa. They have big selection of food and drinks on the menu and they all look fantastic. I will definitely come back again.

This cafe staff need to get professional training that how to approach customer . Staff is bullied by owner Tyke because when I went to cafe today staff said we got instructions from Tyke we cannot serve u becuse u wrote a bad review for resturants on behalf of my frind she was treated badly . Staff is good but owner is Tyke has no manner n professionalism this clearly shows how he is treating his own staff n customer . Two waiters from this restaurant complained that Tyke bullied them n they gave me his name to write review about him . I m taking this restaurant to watch dog n they will investigate n bring the truth out infront of public . Tyke owner is v rude guy . I was polite but he was shouting n saying rude words to me n my friend when I asked him to give me tea with out sugar n I was willing to pay . I wonder how he escaped up to now by being so rude and bully to his staff n customers . How can he behave like this in this country where every one applies equality and diversity in thier behaviour . He must get reported to watch dogs so in future no one suffer his rude n...

Poorest service ever. Food is 1/2 decent, however quality has been deteriorating rapidly. Service always been terrible as we've been going there for 8 years and the managers still pretend not to recognise us. Today it was the lowest. I ordered Sunday roast and the "roast potatoes" (pretty sure deep fried !) were disgusting. When I complained to the waiter ( who didn't speak English ) didn't want to change it. Finally when he took my plate it took them 1/2 HR to change some potatoes, however when he brought it back he still made the point "there is nothing wrong with it but we still changed for you". When I realised of course it wasn't changed I left it and they showed absolutely no interest at all. Sad. They always saved on service however now they are saving on the ingredients. There is never regular staff in there and I never seen a smile from them. True testament how the atmosphere is and how they are treated. Do not recommend. Today was the very last...
