This is so much more than your average greasy spoon, although I'm fond of those too. It serves freshly cooked food from hearty breakfasts through to proper dinners such as cottage pie, sausages, steak and kidney pie and many more, all served with plenty of fresh veg inc. roasties and gravy. There is also a reasonable supply of puddings too although I've always been far too full from dinner to try them. Its clean and has toilet facilities and it's all on one level. But, and this is what makes it stand above all of it's kind, it us the staff. The guy that owns it also works there and is so kind to everyone. Nothing is too much trouble. My husband suffers with dementia and is slow in everything. This chap will painstakingly go through his entire menu as if my husband is the only customer he has all day. He often stops to chat about anything of interest and has a good knowledge of music. I believe he is considering to have live music occasionally as he now opens until 9pm on four nights a week. It isnt a fine dining experience and the menu us the same as always. He hopes to be able to provide a kind of community supper club, as well as provide good meals for those who need a break from the usual routine of shopping, preparing, cooking and clearing up. I hope it becomes a social hub and look forward to being able to enjoy the food and company for many...
Read moreI have been pretty much a daily customer for about 3 months, it all started when I had a full English breakfast and loved it, it is cooked with care and as a result the taste is outstanding, the chef cooks it perfectly to your liking. This family run cafe offers a huge range of traditional English meals, a full breakfast menu, tasty omelettes even a home cooked roast dinner. There is so much available here, there are sandwiches, subs & deserts as well as delicious Italian coffee, English Tea and a whole range of cold drinks. The atmosphere is friendly warm & welcoming as is the service.
Well worth a visit...
