Really disappointing. My score of three stars is a tad on the generous side. Sadly one can't award half a star so three it has to be. I've not been here for about eighteen months and in that time standards have either slipped or the owners have become very complacent. The presentation of both courses was poor but it was the main course that was most disappointing of all. I ordered the calves liver and onions and asked for it to be cooked medium-rare to rare. It came well done. Very well done in fact. And then there was the side dish of fried courgettes. They were so thickly coated in batter that batter was the only thing I could taste. At the start of this review I wondered whether the owners had grown a little complacent. At no point did any member of the staff ask me if I was enjoying my meal or if everything was alright. Not even when I left and the owner shook my hand did he ask whether I'd enjoyed the food. Clearly he assumed that I had. I've had the same pasta dish at multiple other places and was always disappointed, but this salmone one exceeded my expectations. Apparently the calves liver with butter and sage is also amazing, and the potatoes are nice. The complimentary fresh bread and butter are also incredible, soft and fresh (unless they've run out, but that's one's fault for getting there so late). I don't recommend the spaghetti covered in pepper unless you love pepper and don't mind it not being creamy, but the chef is great and I've decided to go through everything I can eat on the menu, so I don't mind.
