Visited Dee Lite for the first time today in 3 years. Good news is that the food is as good as it always has been, and the cakes are top notch with generous portions. Hence the 3 ⭐️ review.
I consider good service to be a vital element of the dining and shopping experience. Sadly, the service at Dee Lite has deteriorated. I don’t know whether there has been a change of management but you used to be greeted on entry and the staff looked happy to see you. This experience felt like one giant shrug of the shoulders on the part of the staff, a bit so-what.
Today, I was the only customer at the counter and was ignored for a good 3-4mins while the two staff chatted and busied themselves at a fridge. I literally was not even glanced at. One of them was the barista, one took the orders and served tables. When the latter finally served me, there was no acknowledgement of the fact that I could have been served quicker. I placed my order: when it came, the veggie roll was poorly heated and was cold through the middle.
Our coffees didn’t come with the food and I had to catch the servers eye in order to query the whereabouts of our coffees. The barista had wandered off without bothering to fill the only drink order on her board. She had to be nudged by the server. The coffee was acidic and not very good, and gave me stomach ache ten mins after we left.
This used to be a great neighbourhood locale but there is now competition next door in the brunch / snack market, which Dee Lite is not really managing to meet or keep up with. I hope they up their game. It would be a shame to lose a local, independent...
Read moreWent there today with my mother whom has been here a few time's before. Ordered a toasted sandwhich and cappuccino, coffee machine needed reprogramming which can happening but was waiting a while for our toasted sandwiches when we finally recieved our sandwhichs after 20mins of waiting mine sandwhich was hot on the outside and fridge cold in the middle considering it was a ment to be a TOASTED (hot) sandwhich, when i told them they said they would reheat it for me i said NO. Being ill and on treatment i could get seriously ill from reheating food several times, i am also very perticular where i eat from and only came here as i my mother has been many times in the past. One of the ladies said to my mother your allowed to reheat cooked chicken, i am laughing at this, and as you should only reheat once yes the chicken is cook you are then HEATING IT (reheat) in the toasted sandwhich and then you want to REHEAT it again. Well all i can say people who have low immune system's and on treatment will get food poisioning for doing this also you should not reheat more then once for anyone. My mother and I are hughly disappointed with the service by the staff here you have 4 people behind the counter and non of them know what they are doing. Looking confused like dont know what to do such a shame for a beautiful set up, sourdough bread is lovely however will never return there again. Not so...
Read moreEveryone nearby knows the Dee Light Bakery. Within a short walk of Tooting Common it's a favourite destination to buy a picnic (you can also phone orders ahead). Now lockdown has changed you can sit outside at their socially distanced tables to eat. And what amazing food! The brie and salami toasted sandwich is delicious, as are the veggi omlets in bagels, and the variety of delicious sausage rolls including black pudding and pork and apple. Plenty of tastey vegetarian options too. They always have a great selection of fresh made cakes naturally, the coffee cake last visit was really good and the chocolate brownies are great. But the nuttella filled pastries are simply amazing. You can always tell yourself you'll walk off the calories on the common. The staff are only too helpful and you get a positive feeling by stopping by. The coffee is great and obviously they do take away. You can also walk from Balham tube and train station, either straight along the main road from the station and left after Argos, or up Bedford hill then down just before the park. They also accept cards and contactless. A really great local coffee shop for...
