I tried to phone to resolve this with no answer. Disappointing to say the least and embarrassing. I went there to meet a client. We will call him John. He found plastic in the food and said he no longer wanted it. The waitress took the dish back to kitchen and came back with salt claiming it had been in flake form before. She insisted it had been salt, which for me was untrue and really irrelevant given John had stated he wouldn't eat it but was still willing to pay. It sounded like the waitress was challenging the customer's reality by repeating it was salt. For some reason a second waitress came out and repeated the entire process in the same manner more or less. A customer shouldn't be challenged repeatedly when the integrity of the food was already under question given it went into kitchen one way and came back another. John left early and when I was leaving, I gently suggested to the second waitress that perhaps the first waitress shouldn't really challenge a customer in this way, she didn't seem to get it, this was not a language barrier but a training gap and a lack of tact. However, we also need to train staff to treat customers with a sense of equality, integrity and dignity. This was not the case. Training on tact and diplomacy is greatly needed where we are all raised and wired very differently but customer service is still customer service. This gives the impression that only a very specific clientele are welcome. The initial waiter was very nice and food pleasant but I felt my £16 for my breakfast was money down the drain given...
Read moreI would have liked to give Deeney’s 3.5 stars but no halves allowed Very friendly and welcoming waiter Nothing was too much - so thank you to her for making us feel welcome as this was our first time in here
The food was nice We had a couple of the toasties - the Bruce thingy was tasty. The coffees were great The ambience - great and there were a few mums and babies downstairs . Not a bother at all and it’s a testament to how peaceful this place is. The toilet - appears they only have one downstairs was spotless Well done as this makes a big difference
I however gave three stars for the following reasons : The toasties just came on a plate with nothing else ; I’m weird with sandwiches as like them to be symmetrical but mine was wobbly ( not a criticism though as it was probably the filling that “ wobbled” it ) ; some garnish - even if it’s a mint leaf or tomatoes or something would have been nice on the empty side of the plate. So for presentation I had to take a few points off The coffees - in smallish glass cups - and for two of us - a whopping £6.30 ! So I was not happy as not value for money for me. The portion of chips - not enough for my two year old grandson - was £3 ! Nice and crispy but again not value for money and presentation - nah
Service charge - looks like it’s a compulsory 10%; I don’t mind as long as it all goes to the staff - but I would also have liked a choice ; just a small moan ….
Overall - and for a late afternoon brunch - it was nice - and I’ll come again but will avoid coffee...
Read moreShouldn’t be called a cafe. A restaurant it should be. Not study, work, or reading friendly. Eat and leave.
Discovered this place by happenstance. I saw that it was a cafe, asked if it’s okay to study, and was told it was definitely okay, as if I shouldn’t have asked to begin with. Slowly more tables waived in. After an hour, a red headed female server came over and told me I would have to move soon if it became busy. I said okay where, she replied she’d make room. This was a lie. She went and told upper management instead of making room. Who then came and offered the most tightest spot in the whole restaurant.
I then proceeded to ask if I ordered food could I still sit at a table for two, (mind you wasn’t hungry, just open to stay give them business, and stay in a “cafe” atmosphere”. He continued to say, “I can offer the table to eat, but you cannot do work, as we need to flip the table”
The restaurant had 3 empty tables and no one was waiting to sit down to eat.
Please eat and leave here or you will be passive aggressively moved to the worst place in the restaurant instead air nicely being told at the upmost bare minimum “hey it was okay for you study before but thought are now the last table to be available for other to...
