Home to London's oldest working espresso machine, a lovely Gaggia lever model, Doctor Espresso Caffetteria serves up a slice of Italy directly opposite Putney Bridge tube station on the District Line. It helps that the coffee, roasted in Italy and shipped to London, is excellent, a real old-school espresso experience.
However, it's not just for coffee geeks and lovers of old machinery. The coffee, which is some of the best you'll find, is backed up by some lovely Italian food: panini, calzone, pizza, pasta & salad, along with some delicious cakes and pastries. So far I've managed to sample a couple of the calzone and a couple of the cakes, all of which were delicious.
Finally, Doctor Espresso Caffetteria, although small, is a great place; the decor is quirky, but well thought out and the outdoor seats are a delight in the summer. As for the coffee â it was just awful. Ordered a cappuccino and got something that tasted like boiled water sprinkled with chocolate powder. No flavor, no texture, no pleasure.

First bad experience I waited 5 minutes to be served whilst the barista was talking to another member of staff and cleaning rather than serving me and another customer waiting. Second bad experience, entered the shop at 3:20 pm on a saturday and was told they are closed eventhough it is advertised that the shop is open to 4pm. No explanations as to why.
