The Rocket - JD Wetherspoon — Restaurant in London

My first visit here was a complete disappointment. We ordered our food and drinks at the table on the app. We waited quite a long time and then decided to go and have a cigarette outside. There was no way of indicating that our table was spoken for, to prevent someone else sitting at our table whilst we were away from it. I decided to leave my hand sanitizer and a little make up bag on the table (nothing valuable) to indicate the table was taken. It was very busy with lots of families sat on near by tables.

We went outside to share a cig quickly and when we came back (literally about 3 minutes later) there was people sat at our table. Obviously we had already ordered our food and drinks to come to that table so we had to let the people know.

They said "well there was nothing here to let anyone know someone was sat here" and then I said so where are my items that I left on the table for that purpose. They had vanished.

I got a member of staff over and explained the situation. The new people at our table seemed reluctant to move.

The member of staff apologised to them for them having to move and was completely uninterested in my missing items. The answer I got was "its not our responsibility to look after your things that you left on a table" I then said that there are cameras everywhere couldn't they check? At the end of the day the items weren't valuable but someone in the last 5 mins had stolen them or perhaps handed them in? The guy said I left my items at my own risk but he would go check the cctv. He seemed really put out by it.

We took our seats back at the table and our food arrived without our drinks. I asked to speak to a manager and mentioned our missing drinks.

Low and behold the really rude and uninterested in helping me, cctv checking, guy was the duty manager and he came back with my items saying that a member of staff had handed them in. I thanked him but couldn't help feeling really irritated that a manager could be so unhelpful and rude.

We finished our food and our drinks still hadn't arrived. We asked another member of staff if they could find out what was happening.

After about 10 minutes someone came over with our drinks. My partner took a mouthful of his and there was a huge curly long hair in his drink that he nearly choked on. Obviously human error and things like this sometimes happen but it was very disappointing along with everything else that had gone on. I went to the bar and the drink was replaced. I have to say the bar manager has far better people skills than the other manager. He was polite and apologetic.

My friend and I decided to travel from Harold Wood to Putney for a day out including lunch at the Rocket as we had enjoyed a previous visit, unfortunately we were very disappointed. It was my turn to order lunch and I gave my table number first and then as far as I am concerned I ordered two Scampi and chips and was asked if I wanted peas, mushy peas or beans and confirmed peas. I ordered one lemonade with no ice and queried which ciders were available but decided to go with a soft drink after all, Diet Coke as sugar free lemonade is not available. I paid by card. Whilst we waited for our meals a number of bags of rubbish were taken past us including one containing waste food which we thought was definitely out of order. A member of staff approached our table with two fish and chip meals which I said were not ours as I’d ordered Scampi and Chips, he returned to the kitchen area and we could here some conversation among staff, then the member of staff who took my order came and said I had said yes when he repeated my order but I didn’t recall this.My friend said to look at the receipt but I said that you’re not given one these days, my friend and I often visit Weatherspoons, but the member of staff abruptly said you can ask for one, I don’t feel I should have to. We felt that we had to accept the meals but to be honest when they were placed before us they looked like one portion of fish had been sliced lengthways in to two and covered in batter and that is what it tasted like. So disappointing and unlike any other Weatherspoons I have been in. We popped to the Ladies before we left and another lady entered and passed a comment that there was no food available as there was a problem with the kitchen, perhaps that explains why we were treated, in our opinion so poorly but does not excuse rude staff and poor standard of food. Breakfast by the river for £2.99

It's worth taking note. Warm and friendly staff can forgive a multitude of sins and so can an excellent view.

I've just recently given a 3 star review to a slightly more upmarket restaurant, that took a 10% service charge. Another restaurant Charged me £15.49 plus service charge for breakfast alone, without any drinks.

Context It's important to give Context to a review. This is wetherspoon after all. Therefore they will have the usual strengths and weaknesses that come with the brand.

The service was better at Wetherspoon with no service charge on my bill.

Wetherspoon doesn't claim anything it is not. You get what you pay for.

Breakfast muffin with a Coffee for £2.99

Wetherspoon can sometimes find it difficult to keep all food items at a decent temperature. Therefore ending up with items that are sometimes cold.

This was for myself and my wife. It is possible to eat at Wetherspoon and not spend too much money.

In this day and age where too much screen time can be damaging for children's mental health. Parents will often just give them some sort of screen, so they can have 5 minutes peace.

Well stocked kids activity sheets are a good thing.

The bottom Line is: could you go to any major City in the world and have a meal at any standard, with a riverside view for £2.99 (Freedom Breakfast). Add a drink and it will still come to less than £5.
