🚇 Putney Bridge 🍺 £6.70 Krombacher Pils
The Eight Bells is located close to the northern end of Putney Bridge in Fulham, Southwest London. The nearest Tube is Putney Bridge, make sure you check out the WWII bunker at the end of the westbound platform.
The pub dates from the 18th century is the oldest surviving pub in Fulham. The pub was first licensed in 1629 as the Blue Anchor, it became The Eight Bells by 1754.
From 1886 to 1888, Fulham FC used the pub as a changing room, they played at the nearby Ranelagh House until that site was used for housing.
This is a traditionally decorated one bar pub that has a cosy oldschool feel. The servery is horseshoe shaped with the bar forming a “U” shape around it. To the right of the servery is an open kitchen with a specials board to the left. The decor is superb and consists of pews around the periphery, a 1930’s brick fireplace, a grandfather clock, wooden panelling, loads of knickknacks and not forgetting the proper pub carpet. One interesting item adorning the walls, was a page from The Morning Advertiser dated May 1846, it was found during renovation in 1991.
The beer line up is impressive and offers a varied selection of brews including craft, bonafide continental lager and five cask ales for the cultured imbiber. I decided Krombacher Pils, my was great, price point was above average. The food menu is classic pub grub staples, Fish & Chips costs £13.45. For any Canadians living in London, this pub serves up Poutine.
I arrived just after 10am on a pleasant but chilly Saturday morning in March. I was first one in the door so I had a good mooch about. I got chatting to Billy who has been the cleaner at the pub for forty years. Billy told me about the history of the pub and was cracking a few jokes at the same time, what a lovely fella. The pub soon started filling up with loyal locals and a big group of Aussies who plotted up outside. The service was first class, I received a friendly welcome from the Barman in duty.
The @eightbellsfulham is an absolutely outstanding boozer, my favourite pub visit this year.

On the way back we decided to stop in again for a drink and the place was packed with people eating lunch, some of which smelt lovely. The barmaid was very slow by this time, we went in and sat at the bar and she served someone else who approached the bar after us, then picked up her phone and spent a good 5 minutes typing. Eventually she did get back to us but i didn't like sitting waiting to be served when we didn't need to.
In short - it looks like a lovely place and i should imagine has seen a few things in its time. Bar staff slow and a...
