Visited after work on a weekday. I was keen to try a local rooftop bar. If you've been to Catford then you know 'Rooftop Bar' is not what you'd immediately think of... 🤣
It's above the old Argos if you're familiar with the High Street, it's literally right next to a bus stop, so well served by public transport. The entrance is kinda cute, you can see they tried but the final finish on the decor overall is... um 'rustic'. 🏚
There is no lift so if you have mobility issues be aware of this it's 3 flights up. The third storey doesn't lend itself to the most fantastic views but it's Catford and you can see a wee bit of greenery if you look in the right direction. Maybe the view is better at night? 🌛
The variety of the cocktail menu is decent, but the blueberry component of the blueberry mojito was not available so we opted to try something else. Service could be a lot friendlier especially because I do think the cocktails were overpriced. I appreciate you're not just paying for ingredients when you buy cocktails, I consider several elements, such as location, decor, staff salaries, ambiance, comfortable seating, cleanliness of the toilets, accessibility etc and based on all of these I still feel the cocktails are a bit expensive. 🍹
Lewisham Borough is being gentrified- like a lot of places and there's good and bad that comes along with this but Catford is still quite a deprived area. Please don't think I'm just being snobby about Catford because I've lived locally my whole life. 🐈⬛
Overall I think this place has potential, maybe on a hot, sultry evening with twinkly lights and good music it would get a higher score. Security were very courteous and professional but the Bar staff were a bit sullen. Our cocktails weren't that tasty, they needed to be shaken or stirred before serving because you could taste the separate layers rather than them being evenly balanced throughout. The cocktails also could have been prettier, for the price I'd expect a bit of garnish or something, they probably can't have a lot of glass up there but there's more than can be done to improve a cocktail than to serve it in fancy glasses 🍸.
I would go back and give them another go, they're quite new so there's room for improvement and I like to support local businesses.
Management if you're reading this, please have the 🚽 checked regularly because they were in a right state at 17:30 on a random...
Read moreWe went about 1 month ago. It's still a work in progress place and I think it could have benefited from a bit more of this progress before opening. Staff were friendly and the cocktails were fine - nothing out of the ordinary but certainly nice enough. There were plenty of places to sit outside. We'd come again. It's a shame that it's not yet accessible to those using mobility aids. Hopefully this matter can be expedited. Didn't use the loos so can't comment on them.
One thing that did frustrate me is that there were 2 children of some other customers, aged about 4 and 8, allowed to literally run around the whole place. They were clambering up on furniture, including the bench we were on, screaming and running around (until one got hurt of course and was bawling her eyes out). I appreciate that parents and caregivers need to unwind and it's good to have places they can take their kids to. However, the venue needs to make it clear verbally and through signage, that whilst children are welcome, the venue is not a playground and any children there need to be supervised at all times. It's not safe - the furniture and venue are not designed to be safe for playing on/ around. It also impacts upon...
Read moreLove the rooftop bar and its lovely views. Only stopped in for a Coca Cola to find that the plastic glass had bits of food in it, sitting at the bottom. I took the empty vessel and said thank you, as I always do and spoke my mind, saying I was not very happy about it. There was zero response and felt that they didn’t give two shits about customer feedback whatsoever! Very...
