Going to the cafe has always been as much of a visit to the gallery as has the wonderful art, but sadly since the recent 'refurbishment' things have really gone downhill. The menu has been slashed and there is now a strange division between table service for hot food and self-service for cold which makes for an uncomfortable experience if some of you are having one and others the other. It hasn't helped at all with the queues and hunting for a free table, in fact has made it worse. The food we had was ok though the bread served with my pot of smoked mackerel pate was just a couple of slices of stale bog standard baguette with two pats of butter so frozen it was impossible to spread, nor were two small slices enough for the all the pate so I ended up eating that off my knife! All very disappointing compared to some of the excellent meals we've had here in the past. Next time we come to the gallery we'll be giving the cafe a miss and heading down into the village for...
Read moreWe were lucky enough to visit here at the weekend and what a delight of a cafe. The staff were very attentive and the lady that took our order was very friendly and happy to make recommendations ( who we learned while chatting was the manageress) I ordered the avacado poached egg and feta on sour dough for myself while my daughter opted for the scrambled eggs .....the choices on the menu all sounded delicious. We both enjoyed our meals and the delicious coffees. We opted for the recommended carrot cake for desert and another coffee The carrot cake was beautiful. As it was such a sunny day we were in no hurry to leave our table in the sun and enjoyed a few Mimosas in the lovely surroundings of the park and gallery. The cafe was busy which to me is a sign of a good place to be. I will definitely be back the next time I...
Read moreBadly designed and overpriced (always the case with cafes in the suburbs) and not very polite staff. They needed an alternative design, something unique on par with the famous Dulwich Picture Gallery. It feels that the only purpose the new layout serves is to rip customers off with their high prices. Even cafes in central London are not that expensive. The whole area (one of the most affluent suburbs in the country) belongs to Dulwich Estate, a robust financially charity, which recently came under criticism from local businesses and residents over their management of properties! They don't need another overpriced cafe. Be different, be diverse and unique! I would not recommend it.The nearby Dulwich Park cafe is certainly much better with lovely and...
