I was passing late in the evening looking for an Indian restaurant to eat in. I decided on Forest Tandoori.
Rolled up, found a parking spot right outside the restaurant. Walked in and was seated by an Indian waitress. She was very polite and courteous.
I ordered Popadoms, Mango chutney, Garlic Chilli Chicken, Tandoori King Prawns and plain rice.
Being bengali myself i cannot get away from rice and curry, i love it. If i eat out i want to try something slightly different than what is cooking at home.
The popadoms was served first, they were nice as i expected along with my favourite mango chutney.
The Garlic Chilli Chicken was nice just needed a touch of salt. The rice was perfectly boiled and fluffy, the portions were a perfect amount.
Tandoori Kingprawn is a speciality of mine. The king prawns are expensive themselves and it is one of the priciest items on the menu understandably. I love King Prawns so i had to order.
I have to be honest, the King Prawns lacked the tandoor taste and did not appear to have the right texture i am used to. It wasn't all bad, it was ok but missing the Tandoori flavour.
The other point i am slightly dissapointed about. I didn't realise in the restaurant, only after i had left. I asked for 2 poppadoms and mango chutney. I was served Mango chutney, onion salad and mint sauce on 1 tray. I received 2 extra items which i didn't ask for.
When the bill came i did ask the lady what the £3.75 was for, she said Mango chutney, i thought it was a bit expensive just for mango chutney but i didn't question it. Only looking at the menu now, after i see each item is £1.25 each which now makes sense.
Nevertheless she did say to me earlier on she was new, honest mistake. However her service was very good. Bought me water when i asked for it. Bought me salt when i needed it. She bought me the bill and freshening wipes along with an after eight mint chocolate - another one of my favourite chocolates.
This is a dry restaurant, no alcohol served on premises. They do have a...
Read moreBeen coming here for over 12 years even after I’ve moved around 30 minutes away. I travel to collect sometimes, although we have plenty of nice restaurants local to me. I only ordered one curry and rice and one naan - it cost me over £25 WITH 10% off collection! When questioned why the prices are so high - I was told that it’s been increased and that they have 5 star reviews but in my opinion it’s way too extortionate for any takeaway especially in Walthamstow - it’s actually day light robbery at a time when living is really difficult for people and eating out is a luxury. It’s greedy and I can only imagine that they will lose a lot of custom from this as I will not attend again. If you were to consider a family of four ordering an Indian it would cost them on average without starters £30 each - honestly disappointed with management at this one. Best of luck anyway.
I would also like to add that my local Indian (also delicious) charges £29.99 for 2 starters, 2 naans, 2 mains, 2 rices and 2 vegetable side dishes. And this is with delivery. Honestly I’d think about your prices again, it’s about quantity of sales that matters.
Your response is rude and for that I’ll lower my stars. I understand rates are high, we also run a business on a high street but that doesn’t excuse the fact that your food is almost double the price of other restaurants. Your business is not in central London. Over £30 for a curry, rice and one naan is extortionate, now we can agree to disagree but I will not be returning and I don’t want a refund thank you very much. I was stating my opinion that your prices have most definitely increased to much! I’m sorry that offended you but I still have your food high stars hence why I’ve returned for years even when it was a different management.
You also mentioned for me to continue using my local (cheaper) restaurant and that they won’t last long but they’ve been open for over 40 years, so I doubt that will...
Read moreBe wary of ordering on Deliveroo. Delivery was 15 mins behind estimated time so I gave the restaurant a call to check (they don’t use the Deliveroo delivery driver so can’t track as usual on the app). As soon as I enquired I was told the person delivering had been waiting 20 minutes and that there was no answer from my flat (intercom works fine, never had a problem before) and that Deliveroo has tried to contact me (they had not). I understood that they were frustrated but there had clearly been a mix up. They told me to contact Deliveroo for a refund but it turns out Deliveroo has no record of contacting me and that on their end the food was still marked as out for delivery. I get back in touch with the restaurant and the man I speak to is shouting at me, and says he “followed someone in and left the food”. The problem is that there’s multiple entrances to the building (and many other apartment buildings on the street) so even if that was the case, there’s no way I can get the food if it’s in the wrong lobby. I asked a neighbour with a Ring camera on the ground floor to see if anyone had entered the building in the delivery window and there was zero sign of the food. This could be an honest mistake on their end but at the end of the day, I’m £30 out of pocket and they have made no effort to help me. As it stands, Deliveroo is saying they also can’t help get my money back as this is an issue with the restaurant.
UPDATE: Photo confirmation from someone in a different building further down the road that there was a bag of food left outside a flat there. I will be calling the restaurant again to try to resolve as now I have proof it was delivered to the wrong address. Mostly upset because this could’ve been on the night - and I could’ve found my food - if the person I spoke with on the phone wasn’t so aggressive...
