I have to rate the Giggling Sausage as only "Ok". Unfortunately service was the weak point of this establishment by a long shot. As you will see from my review / recount of events I did genuinely enjoy the food (personally eating a pleasantly filling chicken burger with some marvellous fries), but it was just the staff that let the experience down. For the record, my family and I exited the Giggling Sausage five minutes before closure. We felt rushed but we don't like overstaying our welcome anyway and were not looking to keep any of the staff around past closing time.
The visit: I was down in Kent to visit my family before Christmas with my partner. We elected to visit the Giggling Sausage for food and were greeted upon settling at a table with the most moody young lady I have ever had the displeasure of being served by. Everything from her facial expression to her tone of voice reeked attitude and gave away that she did not want to be there. I would have put it down just to the restaurant closing soon if not for the following:
The young lady told us before we placed our order that certain items on the menu were off-limits, due to the restaurant closing in 45 minutes time. She did not list the items, just announced we couldn't have certain things. My mother asked if we could order and then she might tell us if anything was off-limits. My mother was implying that it might be worth to see if we wanted anything that would be a problem before giving us an issue.
The staff for the last 20 minutes of the opening hours were gathered round the counter and watching us. I did not see it personally but my mother passed on information that they were whispering about us.
The food: One of the items we ordered was a tea, and we were not informed that the tea still contained the teabag - the person who ordered the tea did not enjoy stewed tea. The tea was left to cool whilst we ate which lead to the late discovery.
Another item ordered was a 'mango milkshake' . This was an odd item in that it did not taste like mango. It was an odd sherbet-like flavouring. I wanted to mention this for anyone who might be interested in this item. Might be worth looking elsewhere for fruit milkshakes.
I would personally like to add that although there was a sign up at the till that it was cash only on the day in question , it might be worth waiting staff mentioning before taking drink orders that there is no functional card machine. This was something we spotted after the fact and is definitely something we should have been alerted to beforehand.
All in all, the Giggling Sausage provided good food and had a great selection of drinks (the Oreo Milkshake is pictured attached to this review, and was remarkably cheap compared to other restaurants at a modest £2.20, from my memory). Unfortunately it was absolutely let down by this customer service which has driven us to look elsewhere going forward. I think it is suffering from a mix of an overstaffing of waiting staff (albeit it was hard to tell if all the people watching us from the counter were indeed just that), and an unfortunate lack of training in the customer service department. Service with a smile is so important, and I was surprised at how little of that we were given. We didn't feel warmed and welcomed, which is not something to be desired on such a cold day in the...
Read moreSo i went here with my daughter and my mum on friday while eating an elderly gentleman fell over. my mum saw it myself and my daughter rush out to help as there was blood everywhere.I would like to clear a few things up in this situation in your response to my daughter comment. And if you have cctv this would all be proven to be correct . we brought him from the floor to the outside seating area where my daughter got napkins while i did a series of check to see where the blood was coming from This where i had come in and ask for more napkins to stem the bleeding i even said to your face can i have more you said yes and gave me them you did not offer and 1st aid at all nor did you ask if he was ok . I then ask for ice to try and deal with the swelling which you gave me in a bag as your words" we dont have any thing like that here"as a restaurant that not acceptable. You gave me a carrier bag with ice which i had to try and put on the huge lump the getting increasingly bigger My daughter called the ambulance you watched us the whole time. not once offerings any help all help that was given was because i kept coming in and asking you did not once come out and offer any support no one did as for saying you was serving customer you had 2 Women by the door were the child in a high chair. There was one lady behind my mum. An initially 2 people next to the table where we was but left shortly after the incident. So fact you're entire restaurant had including us. About 7 people in there you could quite clearly see what's happening. You then delivered our food. You knew it was our food to which you left on the table and watched. Us deal with the man outside while you knowingly watched our food Go cold at this point we brought him and his wife in again BECAUSE I ASK YOU DIDNT COME AND SAY IT TO COLD BRING HIM IN you then had more customers walk in .you then had the Audacity to ask how the food was before charge before it And i said well obviously cold but as for suggesting, we should have asked for our food to be kept warm. That means you clearly knew that we was outside and therefore, as a restaurant manager, and knowing your customers? You should have taken the food back and kept it warm for us we waited for an hour with them and the only reason they were in the warm IS BECAUSE I ASK. EVERYTHING WAS BECAUSE I ASK YOU NEVER ONCE OFFER ANY SO PLEASE DO NOT MAKE MY DAUGHTER LOOK LIKE SHE WAS DRAMATISED THE SITUATION apart from one free bottle you gave them and that was because we ask for tap water you gave them that .thankfully i work in a hospital and have 1st aid training i would strongly suggest you get 1st aid training a 1st aid kit and learn to accept responsibility and accept you on this occasion did nothing but allow them to wait in the warm once we had stopped the...
