AVOID! Found that this restaurant was on the Government List as participating in ‘Eat Out to Help Out’ and so I made a booking for 3rd August to make the most of this offer having also checked with a staff member over the phone first.
The food was nice - nothing special but no complaints. The problem arose when I received the final bill that had no discount applied. I politely approached the staff and said there must be an error as they have forgotten to apply the offer. The older man immediately became defensive and told me that they are not providing customers with this discount and started asking me why I’m only asking now. I told him that I had checked when booking and again checked the Government page and their details are listed. He then started raising his voice claiming that all businesses including their sister restaurants have signed up but they don’t have to offer it if they don’t advertise it on their display!
I asked the man behind the bar to show me where it says that and he suddenly couldn’t reply. For your information I have thoroughly read the Government guidance and it states as follows: ‘ When you register for the scheme, it is expected that you will offer it during the whole of your opening hours on all the eligible days that you are open and on all qualifying sales of food or drink.’
To cut a long story short, the extremely rude staff continued to shout down to me and tell me I am in the wrong. I refused to pay the full price and gave them the option of no money at all or apply the discount and I’ll pay the reduced amount- unsurprising they applied the discount! Apparently the manager will call me to discuss paying the remainder - I look forward to it!
This is a clear case of fraud. They had no intention to provide the discount when they signed up so will now receive full payment from the customer PLUS then claim back from the Government fraudulently. I am by no means one of these ‘something for nothing’ people, I was simply making good use of my hard earned money while I can with this offer. They chose to cheat the wrong person and I hope others will see this so they don’t fall...
Read moreWhen will the staff and manager of this restaurant actually grow a pair! My table complained twice to the staff about a noisy table near to us, all evening we had endured noisy, screeching behaviour from this group, so much so we were having to shout across the table to each other to be heard. We were assured that the group had been asked to quiten things down a bit, but when we said that no member of staff had actually gone over to the table, other than serving drinks, the manager accused me of calling him a liar ( from a review for the same evening another customer was called a liar too - perhaps this is new customer service procedurel)! In the mêlée that ensued the group swore that no one had spoken to them. The situation very nearly got out of hand as other tables joined in (they had suffered all night also). This could all have been avoided, management should consider ALL their patrons, take control of a situation, learn how to deal with people with absolutely no consideration for others, and stop calling people with a genuine grievance liars. Needless to say this will be my last visit to this restaurant, I have no intention of paying to be called a liar again, food is good, service slow, but it was a busy...
Read moreSadly very poor. First impressions are great, very welcoming, very friendly. Then you sit down and realise you've gone tone deaf from the music blasting out. It must have been loud because the waiter took our drinks order and clearly couldn't shout it across to the bar staff so we finished our dinner with nothing and went to the shop nextdoor.
The food was so bland we literally couldn't taste anything. We did find it strange that the couple we sat next to had small children that were tucking into everything, no problem. Either they're used to the Indian spice of a Madras at age 5 or the food was bland. We wasn't being nosy or anything but the tables are that close together we literally felt like part of the family..
The bill was the most extortionate we've ever paid for an Indian with 2 people coming up £80 and they even charge you for the complementary poppadoms and dips!! Likely because they think Upminster is still a high profile area however, the rude-boys wearing their trousers under their arses all loitering out the front would all disagree.
Gets 1 star for friendly front of house staff and another for the food being hot. Not spicy. Just hot. Believe me, I've done reviews for a while, save your money and give...
