Omg what has happened to the food in this place........and the prices!!!???? Yesterday morning had a works breakfast meeting in here. I had the grill up...............when it arrived it was luke warm. The 2 slivers of bacon were overcooked and I had to chew my way through them. The scrambled egg was just an overcooked block of what seemed like orange play dough. The sourdough bread was so tough I couldn't cut it with a knife or even tear it with my teeth. When I asked them to replace the sourdough bread the only alternative was a very thin slice of gluten free bread that I then waited 10 minutes for. The only thing I enjoyed on my plate was the sausages and the very small portion of beans. The grill up does not include the bread or a cup of tea so the breakfast in total was £25. The only saving grace was the waitress who was lovely and trying her best. The restaurant itself was very nicely decorated but again only one toilet that people had to wait for and NO SOAP IN DISPENSER at only 9.30am. I loved roots the first time around 4 years ago but now I would not entertain it again as there are much much better similar restaurants around. Roots you really disappointed yesterday to the point I need to speak to the manager/owner about the food quality yesterday.........they need to know as others on my table felt the same. Left feeling unsatisfied and hungry for the rest of the day (back to...
Read moreI eat here most weekends of late. And can't rate the food highly enough in terms of healthy options, tasty options, hearty breakfast/brunch options, there is something for all!
For a small venue they make good use of space inside and out, and even though it's on the busy highsteet with the planters surrounding it you don't really notice the traffic going by.
My 4 stars would be 5 but for my nit-picking the drink selection. Coffee here is delicious, however if you want anything else, I feel the smoothies are a little too complicated often a breakfast in themselves, and with so many ingredients almost everyone will contain something youre not keen on. There should be some simpler just fruit options available. Soft drinks at least when I have been, are non branded, with the diet options tasting to much like pure sweetener. This all means if you don't want coffee or orange juice(which I can't stress enough are lovely), the other options aren't great. Simply making lemonade, coke, zero, diet would rectify this easily.
All that said this is a lovely place that will instantly become a regular visit for anyone that eats...
Read moreWas excited to have brunch out, although was very disappointed with the portion sizes, it felt as if they were for children. We left still hungry, even though we paid £16 for a poke bowl the amount of food did not even fill the bowl, we also ordered a ice tea and matcha, the amount of ice in the cup was far too much meaning there really wasn’t much drink either. We were very excited to spend some time in a very nice cafe although we aren’t very happy anymore, the cafe was much nicer years ago when we first visited. Also as an update, it was very shocking to see how on their instagram page they boosted up the contents of their meals, i’m hoping that if I was to go again I would be receiving that same portion. I have attached down below a picture with text on it which has come from Roots’ instagram and in comparison a photo of our meals. Very different. Not impressed at all, as this is false advertising, considering what you actually get. Expectations vs. reality really comes true in this establishment. It is very interesting to see how the portions are adjusted for instagram although in real life it is utterly...
