Once you find it, inside an industrial estate (which is a bit weird !), you'll notice that the decor embraces the industrial feel whole heartedly. Hairpin legs galore, metal chairs, exposed pipework - even the plumbing fixtures in the loos are industrial.
There is a brewing setup here which is fully functional, and gets used for trial runs. Also you get to see the inner workings of the bar too. For sure, plenty to oogle at for a beer geek. The beer selection is great - not just ones from Gipsy Hill themselves - and often changes - they even offer some fairly standard fare cask ales too.
They don't make food "on site", but do often have various food vendors just outside, and you can take food into the main seating area.
Also, there are some mainstream board games available too, if that's your thing.
It can get a bit chilly, especially during the winter, because it's an industrial unit. They've done their best, but there's only so much you can do to exclude drafts in...
Read moreGreat beer and often some street food outside, staff are friendly and efficient. BUT, if you're expecting a relaxing time in an adult-led environment like a brewery, you'll be in for a shock. Posh obnoxious parents bring their kids along, and drink away as they run around and cause chaos. We don't have kids so we can't block all that noise out the way parents can, and had to leave after just one drink because it was driving us nuts! It just makes no sense to me for somewhere centred around beer to moonlight as a crèche. You can't serve alcohol to U18s, so why let them in to begin with? In many countries it's illegal to be drunk in charge of children. They need to ban kids all day, there's just no reason for them to be...
Read moreI visited on Saturday night with a group of friends and industry colleagues and unfortunately our overall experience was heavily tainted by the disrespectful and rude attitude of the Bar Manager, Chris. Before we even entered the bar we saw him tidying up empty beer cans from the tables outside cursing and swearing at the process of cleaning up. Inside his attitude was no better, with everything from eye rolls and swearing as he served people - in fact, he even indirectly sweared at me when I asked a question about the venue. Based on this individual alone, we won't be returning. Thank you to the other staff who were lovely and apologetic...
