🚇 Green Park 🍺 £6.50 Estrella ❤️ A compact Greene King pub with nautical history. . The Goat Tavern is located just off the upmarket retail thoroughfare of Old Bond Street. The nearest tube station is Green Park which is a few minutes stroll away. . The first license issued on these premises was in 1688. Former customers included Lord Nelson and Lady Hamilton, the latter of whom lived nearby. Carrying on the naval tradition, in the Edwardian era the smoking room upstairs was a favourite rendezvous for senior naval officers. The building was remodelled in 1958 including a new goat which projects proudly from the front of the building. . This is compact Greene King boozer which is traditionally decorated. Opposite the servery and at the front side and back are poser tables to take a load off. There is lots of dark wood in homage to old London pubs and etched mirrors around the walls to make the bar seem bigger and add a bit of character. . The beer line up was straightforward with a couple of cask for the purists. I opted for an Estrella, my pint was decent but the price point was high and reflected the area. The food menu is British pub classics, Fish and Chips costs £16.49. . The pub was busy on this late Saturday afternoon, there were about twenty or so punters in including a group of ladies from up north who were out on the razz. The chap behind the ramp was pleasant and laidback, he had everything under control in this buzzy little boozer. . The Goat Tavern was an enjoyable visit but price point was above average. The service was good and the atmosphere upbeat. Pound for pound there are better pubs in the area but why not see for yourself. . ℹ️ Info correct on...
Read moreVisited for a drink Sunday evening evening June 11th, beautiful pub with a great food & drinks menu,
The bar was attended by 2 young people one female one male.
Service by the female was very pleasant, not so by the male unfortunately. He gave off the vibe of total dis- interest, busy on his phone & watching TV.
For our 2nd drink. I ordered a gin to be advised he didn't have it, the female suggested it was in stock downstairs however this was ignored.
I asked for a 2nd off the menu & also it was not in stock. I asked which gins were available from the menu & the gentleman waved his hand dismissively to a shelf behind him.
My eyesight is poor so I struggled to see, however a 3rd choice was served, again with the same inconvenienced air, served without anything except ice.
I asked for juniper berries. & was greeted with distain at this point. I asked & received a slice of lime.
Such a pity for a lovely pub.
There were only 2 other couples so it wasn't bust.
The barman then returned to the...
Read moreStopped by this little gem on Saturday and wow, what an absolute star they had working! Just one guy running the whole show by himself, and honestly, he was incredible. This bloke was like a machine - super efficient, lovely to chat with, and just genuinely nice. No stress, no moaning, no making excuses when things got busy. He just got on with it with a smile on his face. You could tell he actually cared about doing a good job, which is so refreshing these days! The place had about a dozen of us in there, and he was flying around serving everyone, keeping the bar spotless, wiping down tables - all while being chatty and friendly. Proper old-school service with a smile. Food was spot on too - had the steak sandwich and it hit the spot perfectly. Even nailed the Guinness 0% exactly how it should be (and trust me, that's not always a given!). Honestly, if more places had staff like this guy, the world would be a better place. Top marks all round - will...
