A disgrace to the Westminster borough! Low ratings are so true so always check before you go. I will breakdown into sections as to why this branch should be rebranded to ‘Caffe Concerning’.
Unfortunately, being located in such a high end area and the posh interior, the customer service and food quality does NOT match with the standards.
Furniture: When we asked for a table for 2, the guy in the pink shirt (possibly floor manager) bald head, directed us to a table not so convenient. It was in between two other families which was crowded and awkward. So instead we sat at a separate round table, very small, that was wobbly and the waiter did not inform us about this and it was uncomfortable.
Waiters: Waiters have no manners and are not approachable at all. Marco Costa, please wake up and see what’s happening in your restaurants, as they will end up closing down your successful business. There was no waiters around and we waited for about 20 minutes just to order, baring in mind it was not that busy with the number of waiters working. All the waiters were downstairs lingering around the bar area, not one waiter was spotted upstairs. When we caught one waiter , we called him he stopped for us then instantly said one minute I will come later. I do not know what his name was but he had greasy ringlets with outdated glasses. The next waiter came and we approached him to change our seat he then asked what would we like to eat and we said we have ordered and it’s been 50 mins, almost lunch time. This waiter had no idea we ordered already and then sent another clueless waiter who got us the lunch menu. This started to get very frustrating. If Marco Costa was present, his reputation would have been stripped off and hospitalised.
Menu: We came to have BREAKFAST around 11am, and when it was time to order, we was told by one of the waiters that none of the meat is halal which is UTTERLY DECEIVING as it states on your website (screenshot provided) you provide certified halal food as well as being established across Muslim countries such as Saudi and Dubai, this is unacceptable. Hence we ended up having the full english with no meat. We did request to get halloumi cheese as a replacement for the sausages, but of course despite the awful service, the waiter did not mention this to the chefs. As usual, we had to call another waiter, to get us the halloumi, as well as water (they do not ask if we want anything else). Furthermore, we requested American pancakes and was told this is not available. Not sold out, but not available. That’s like saying an afternoon tea with no tea. The menu was lacking, the food that was served was not cooked properly and burnt hence why I have taken pictures for proof. Once the food arrived after the 50minutes of waiting, the eggs were partially burnt, tomatoes was raw, and the banana was rotten.
The bill: After our plates were taken, we had no acknowledgement from the waiters on whether we needed anything else or to Pay. Again, having to wait another 10 mins we got up ourselves and went downstairs to pay. We mentioned no one was around to assist us, and the guy that served us for the bill (dressed all in a black suit and top) was very unapologetic and instead defensive towards himself and the staff. With the bill there was a service charge added, we refused this straight away and the waiter asked us why. We told him that the waiters did not approach us and ignored us when we called one of them. Instead of apologising, he claims that it was ‘busy’. I have seen restaurants before that have ques lined up outside. This was nothing near that. That attitude proves the lack of enthusiasm towards customer care.
Toilets You’d expect a high end caf to have lavish toilets with the large mirrors, spacious and clean. It is all opposite. I went to touch up my makeup and the place was so dirty, toilet paper rolling off on the floors, smelly.
We went to have a simple breakfast, not this brunch/lunch. The waiting times are awful. If I had the option to give 0 stars...
Read moreA friend and I called in for quick dinner as we were passing on a Tuesday evening. Upon entering we asked for a table for 2 which wasn’t a problem, however, the girl at the door seemed to not know where we should sit so she recommended the area up the stairs. We sat down and looked over the extensive menu. It took 25 minutes for our drinks and food order to be taken and only because we flagged a waitress down. Drinks arrived promptly after that and we sat chatting. Our food arrived some time later and my friend had ordered the Salt Beef bagel but instead was served a salad. The waitress apologised and informed us that it was her first day and she had written it down incorrectly (we don’t blame her at all, if it was her first day and she was not familiar with the menu, that isn’t her fault) the took the salad away and another waiter came over to ask what my friend actually ordered and he went to put that in. While we waited for his food, we became aware that the table next to us was having the same issue with the wrong food being brought out, by another waitress who’s first day it was as well apparently,
My friends food arrived after 15-20 minutes, at which point I was now finishing my food.
As for the food itself I had the chicken burger and fries, the chicken itself, while it had good flavour it was extremely dry and I was having to sip on my drink while eating and as for the fries, they were fine apart from the tiny portion of them. As for my friends salt beef bagel, the beef itself was extremely thin and was completely over powered by mustard and the bagel dry.
When it came time to pay the bill, the waiter brought it over and we asked if we could just have 5 minutes before paying. We didn’t see him again, but while waiting he did clear our table he dropped my knife on me, an honest and simple mistake however, as I handed it to him, he yanked it from my hand and let out a subtle (ugh). At this point my friend and I were completely done with the situation and instead of waiting further to pay at our table we paid by the...
Read moreWe came here for the afternoon tea as Cafe Concerto has a great reputation for breakfast and a good looking breakfast and dessert menu without the restraints of a formal dress code. Given that it was £65 for 2 people which by the way is £10 cheaper than the Ritz, we expected the food to be of somewhat similar quality. We were disappointed. The sandwiches weren't freshly made. Although the centre was soft and fluffy the edges were a bit dry. You could tell they'd been cut for a while. The buns weren't soft and tasted a little stale. Again, a sign that they weren't fresh. Sadly, you could see that the bread hadn't been buttered on both sides and the fillings were thinly spread. The coronation chicken was generous and had a great flavour, but the consistency of the chicken was likened to that of overcooked chicken breast. The salmon and capers filling was spot on. The scones were warm and the clotted cream and Bonne Maman strawberry jam were a great addition. However, we kept biting into what seemed like chewy bits of parchment paper, which is such a shame because it was fluffy on the inside. The desserts were sweet with a couple of creamy options; probably the best aspect of the tray. The tea itself was not loose leafed tea and came in small teapots; enough for two small cups. They were tea bags of various brands including "Tetley". Now don't get me wrong, we love Tetley. But we don't expect to have it when I'm paying £70+ for an afternoon tea. The service and atmosphere were great and this is partly due to the location. It may be that we ordered the wrong item on the menu as it filled up very quickly towards the end of our meal and we noted that most diners had ordered dessert and a coffee. So it might be that the afternoon tea itself isnt great but everything else is. Either way, given this is a first impression, we probably won't be...
