I’m a local resident who has supported this café since the day it opened, but after my visit on Friday, I won’t be returning. Despite there only being a few customers in the café, it took quite a while before anyone acknowledged us. When a waitress eventually came over, I ordered nuggets and chips for my daughter and asked for the same for myself. She looked at me as if I’d spoken another language, laughed, and told me I couldn’t have it because it’s a kids’ meal.
I politely explained that it wasn’t about the cost — it was simply what I fancied to eat — and that nowhere on the menu does it state that the kids’ meal is for children only. I even asked if they could do an adult-sized portion instead. Her response was dismissive and rude — she scoffed and said “no,” without any attempt to be accommodating or courteous.
At that point, I told her I’d take my custom elsewhere. For context, the bill would have come to around £25–30 including two meals, drinks, and a likely dessert for my daughter — plus their automatic 10% service charge and an additional tip. So this wasn’t a minor order — I was prepared to spend and support the business as I always have.
It’s a shame, as I’ve always made an effort to support independent local businesses, but being treated so disrespectfully left a really sour taste. There are plenty of other cafés that welcome customers with kindness and flexibility — I’ll be taking my business to one of those...
Read moreWe’ve been at this new cafe in chingford a handful of times now and can say I’m super disappointed with the food and service here. I came here a few times and thought they were quite expensive for a cafe but didn’t mind paying premium for premium food. I asked for the service charge to be removed once before as I felt the items was quite expensive as our bill came up to more than £70 for brunch, had to go up to the front to pay and in the UK tips are optional. They automatically charge a tip on the bill without the customers knowledge or showing us the bill first which I had noticed I had paid for before without my knowledge. I do not appreciate this. When asked to take the service charge off, they were quite rude to question why which made me feel quite uncomfortable. I can honestly say the food is not up to standard and definitely not worth the money you spend. The grilled chicken burger was dry and had no sauce, chips were under cooked, creamy mushroom pasta was horrendous and didn’t not taste anything like it described and had no mushrooms. We also was very upset about the cakes as fudge cake was stale like a biscuit and the lemon cake was stodgy and dense. We could not stomach the food. After the numerous problems we’ve had with this cafe. I do not think we’ll be returning back anytime soon and will not be recommending to...
