Appalling service and poor value. Booked afternoon tea for 5 people (£15 per person/ £20 with mocktails) noting one guest’s egg allergy. Staff confirmed our booking on arrival yet we waited 50 minutes before any food appeared. When it finally arrived it was minimal with desserts for only 4 people and just 16 finger sandwiches in total. We were then told one guest was not served due to the allergy but no one had informed us or offered an alternative. The bill was £115 including £25 for prosecco we never ordered. Staff claimed this made it cheaper and tried to give us a bottle instead. After another long wait we were refunded only £15 when it should have been £30. Disorganised, uncommunicative and rude. We had a lovely experience here two weeks ago but this visit was so disappointing I would not recommend it. Management needs to urgently address these issues. Not only was I overcharged, the response back from the management does not offer my overpayment back, but infact explains they are working internally.

Lovely pub but lacks atmosphere at times. Classic beers removed, no longer can you get a Carling and Fosters. Premium beers now in their place - Peroni, Moretti, etc. The average price for a pint near the 6 quid mark now, Amstel still priced under a fiver but doesn't taste as it should. Still a good selection of the real ales. I will no longer be popping in after work, instead I'll go up the road for a classic and more reasonably priced pint. The change up will probably suit the image they want to portray so it will likely go down well on a whole.

Good selection of ales and great atmosphere in the evenings. During the day, food is not as good as it once was. I just 'ate' a club sandwich. The bacon was fatty and chicken inedible - effectively I paid for toast with a slice of tomato. My wife had the ploughmans loaf which apparently was very nice. Be aware that on their main menu, the ploughmans loaf is £5.79, but we were charged an extra £0.21 as it also shows on the lunch menu. Took nearly half an hour to get my money returned.

Would not ever want to go there again. We have been there on Sunday,22nd May. The starter came quick and was okay. We waited over an hour for the main, 1 beef and 1 pork roast. We went twice to ask if they had forgotten us. At the first time we got told, in 3 mins. This 3 mins turned out to be 20. I have fulley understanding that it can take longer especially on Sundays, but it would have been nice if this would had been communicated. Also a table with 5 guests who arrived about 20 mins after us did get their food quite a bit before us. When the 3 mins turned out to be more than 3 minutes we went again to ask. 5 minutes later the food came and what a nightmare this was. We had to wait another 5 mins after the food arrived till the cuttlery came. Which did make it worse, as the food looked like it was forgotten and stood since a while, the mash had this typically hardened skin it gets when it stands around. The beef was dark where it was not covered by jelly (gravy), below the gravy it was not dark and leathery. The only thing which was warmish have been the potatoes. The gravy had thickened and had a skin and was no surprise luke warm. Meat and vegs been cold/room temperature. We did see the plates which been served to the table next to us, and they looked different no jellyed gravy, no leathery dark beef and no mash with skin. When our cuttlery arrived we pointed out to the waitress that it is cold food. All we got was - "I will let the chef know and I can offer you a drink". We had drinks, getting more drinks does not make the food warm - nor fresh. We are upset with ourselves that we did actually eat it - but we have been hungry and had no breakfast on this day. So I am embarrassed that we allowed someone to treat us this disrespectful. Which it is really. It is disrepectful to expect people eat a cold roast which was visible standing around a while. I would guess roughly 17 minutes, hence they told us it will be there in 3 and it came after 20 (without cuttlery). We assume that the Lady offering us the drink was the manager or assitance manager as she wasn't wearing the outfit the other waiters have been wearing. When another waiter, the only polite one came to took our plates and asked us how it was, we told him again, and he went to speak with management and they again offered us a drink or a dessert. We did not take it. Too many things been handled wrong. Of course by us with eating it - instead of just going. We would clearly not have gotten a refund. By them because no communication, a forgotten cold roast - no cuttlery and then the joke, you can have a drink. Normally they should have either offered a refund or to take it back and not even heat it, but bringing us a fresh plate with hot food. We asked for extra gravy, which arrived hot and was not jellied. So there been enough proof that this was just forgotten. I guess if the food is hot it could be quite nice. But we are not willing to go there again to find out if it is. We not need to go to a pub which has 0 respect for...

Lovely to sit in beer garden/car park in summer. Fave pub by far.

That was what I wrote over a year ago. Since then the pub has changed managers. Yesterday evening, I met with friends, as I have done for twenty years, for an end of week drink. I ordered a shared platter for my table for £17.50. After 30 mins it still hadn't arrived, so I spoke to a member of staff. 10 mins later I still hadn't heard anything. So I went to the bar, and he said that he was angry (with the kitchen staff), and that it may have gone to another table (?!?). I said to just refund me. As he was on the phone, he said they were just 'plating up'. So I agreed to wait for the food (at this time two of my colleagues had left). At this point the duty manger appeared (she was delayed because she 'had something to do on the computer') and started processing my refund. I told her that the food is being 'plated up', so I went back into the beer garden. Eventually the food arrived. The food was warmed up pre-prepared food, except the garlic bread was burnt toast, the chicken was dry, and the sausages were missing! This after 40-50 after I ordered. As I am a loyal customer of the pub, we (who had stayed) ate the best bits and drunk our last pint. As I was leaving I spotted the duty manager having a glass of wine, so I approached her to talk about the experience. She angrily cut me short and told me she is now off duty, and that I should speak to the new duty manager. I said, 'But you were the duty manager at the time!?!' She told me to just ask for a refund. I said (as a loyal customer) 'I have more dignity than that. I think you should raise your game because this pub has never been like this'. Her response was a dismissive 'Yeah. Bye'. I hope that her district managers read this and put her on a training course in 'hospitality'. We miss you...
