Worst food delivery experience ever. I was a regular customer of Iro Sushi Highgate (until yesterday), yesterday we ordered some sushi and some prawn katsu at 17:40. I understand it's covid and orders may take longer, but finally called them at 19:05 and asked where our order was (we live 5 min drive from the restaurant). The lady on the phone said it's on its way. As the food didn't seem to arrive ever, I called them again at 19:30, they said it was delivered. Unfortunately it was not, the delivery person left it somewhere else so they promised to send another package, which I appreciated. The second order arrived at 20:30 and the katsu was totally cold. I can accept people are making mistakes, the delivery person lost their way first, OK, it happens (although we are in their system for a while, they were able to find us many times before). But then the second time you try to do your best, right? Apparently not. We still had to wait for an extra hour and the food wasn't enjoyable by far, as the katsu was totally cold and they sent only 1 pair of chopsticks with the 2 bags of food. Read moreOrdered a delivery of the Spicy Prawn Futomaki, Well Done Set (Dragon Eye and Chicken Katsu Futomaki) and the Sushi Selection (Salmon Avo Maki, California ISO, Salmon Nigiri, Tuna NIgiri, Salmon Sashimi). Everything tasted OK but was only average at best. The Tuna NIgiri and Dragon Eye were a bit on the bland side for what I was expecting. And I feel like the rice could have done with a bit more vinegar to elevate the sushi taste.
The cuts were also very rough and lacked finesse / skill - leading to very uneven sizes of the same roll. The futomaki were also a bit stingy in thickness - I'd usually expect them to be about 50% thicker. The California Maki also lacked the traditional third filling ingredient of cucumber and there was barely any tobiko on the outside to speak of.
I ordered via UberEats with a 50% off promo, so for the quality and quantity I got the price was about right, but I don't think I would pay full...

The quality varies piece to piece - the maki were simply awful - soft, moist nori with bland, chewy fish; nigiri so-so; with only the futomaki rolls being actually decent. The quality of the fish is very low - the salmon is chewy and lacks any real flavour, and the tuna was tough in places making it feel almost veiny. The order was also delayed by 15 minutes despite us picking it up in person and only ordering 2 large boxes and 1 small box. The staff all seemed uninterested and were too busy shouting at each other through the kitchen window. The only positive here is that the sushi is relatively cheap - but I really wouldn't let that sway your opinion....
