ITS PROPER JERK — Restaurant in London

As a pale man originally hailing from the middle class suburbs, I've always felt a little intimated and not overly welcome at traditional jerk chicken shops in London. I felt sometimes that if they didn't know your face you would end up waiting half an hour for a box of bones with a side of attitude. Proper Jerk is a breath of fresh air in this respect. I've eaten it twice, once at the shop and once as a takeaway, and both times have been great. The lady behind the counter, who I assume is the owner, has a very welcoming and warm personality and it radiates around the shop when you walk in. The chicken is delicious, i won't pretend to be some sort of expert, but it's the best I've eaten. It's well worth buying an extra pot of jerk sauce to pour on your food as its amazing, I could probably drink a bowl of it. The prices are very fair as well, as affordable as i expect it could be in the current climate. If you're a bit skint, I think you can get a small meal for £6, so there is an effort to provide for those on a budget. I'm looking forward to eating my way around the menu, jerk lamb is next i reckon then a bit of curry goat. I'm sure they'll be just as tasty as the chicken. Check this place out and support...

This is one of the best jerk restaurants I have ever been to. The staff are amazing and the atmosphere is lovely.

The jerk wings are the most delicious wings I have ever tasted!!! The mac cheese is superbly delicious along with the proper slaw.

The prices are exceptionally good for the high quality and standard of food and service you receive.

I introduced my partner to the food, and he was so in awe of the food he got a train from East London to Sydenham when I was at work just for the jerk wings and mac lol.

If I could eat Proper Jerk's Jerk chicken for lunch and dinner every single day, I would. Their food is truly up there, the scents, the flavours, I even ate the bones too. Superb. I also appreciate their values of cooking the food from scratch with top ingredients. And the and service - so friendly with a community vibe, makes you feel like part of the tribe.
