Joe’s Brasserie — Restaurant in London

I really want to support local businesses but our experience tonight meant we won’t be back in a hurry. We had to ask for a drinks menu, and our drinks then sat on the bar until we pointed them out to the waiter. We waited an hour for olives, bread and hummus. It took over two hours from sitting down to finally being served our main courses (nothing more complicated than a mediocre burger). At one point we asked for more tap water only to be told, bafflingly, by the waiter “we’ve run out of tap water”. One of the owners was apologetic and to his credit comped our mains when we complained about the wait, but then tried to justify it by saying there were two larger parties of 8 & 12, which isn’t good enough, especially when the restaurant was not full and we were surrounded by several empty tables. The waiting staff were inattentive, overly relaxed and casual, and seemed undertrained, despite there being no shortage of them on duty. If a well-staffed restaurant can’t cope with a couple of larger bookings and still serve the other customers then it is failing as a restaurant. Really...

Really disappointed by the service and management. I had to ask multiple times to get some tap water for the table. Then we ordered and after 30min, the waiter comes apologizing that he had placed the wrong order but had corrected it and would be coming soon. We waited another 30minutes for our food to be finally served. Baring in mind that I wanted to originally order the roasted chicken but they informed us it would be at least 20min wait. We shared our discontent and whilst the manager came and apologized, the only gesture that was offered was to take our drinks of the bill - which were 2 soda waters with lime, SO much lime that I actually returned mine as it was undrinkable. I find that really poor servicing that after all the wait and the mistakes all we got was soda waters which costs nothing off our bills. We ordered wine and nibbles which arrived in decent time, we then ordered starters and mains. Our mains arrived 2 hours after we had sat down for dinner, with starters nowhere in sight. There was evidence we had ordered starters but they hadn’t been prepared. The main guy, who I think was a co-owner, made us feel like this was our fault, asking us what we wanted him to do about it and threatening further delay to our food if we got our starters. We held firm and got our starters. It did seem that our mains then waited under a hot lamp until we were ready for them as the sauces had developed films over them. We eventually got a begrudging apology from the main guy. Overall, we sat down at 7:50pm and left without dessert, having just finished mains at 10:55pm.
