DREADFUL! Old outdated hotel which is shocking considering this is attached to one of the most elite football clubs in the country. My partner took me to my first ever football match. A day for him to reminisce on his childhood, visiting the ground regularly with his Grandad. We had gone for the full experience and had looked at other 4(and 5 star hotels in surrounding areas) but chose Stanford Bridge hotel because of how nice it looked in photos, the reputation of the club, and the assumption everything would be as up to date and to the high standard you would expect from a hotel attached to a Premier Legue club, but in Chelsea as a hotel. After all, its a 4 star hotel. So the expectations were pretty high. Well this is far from what it is advertised to be!! The only way this hotel survives is because of the location as its a DUMP!!! As you enter the front you are greeted by a modern entrance thats grand in size, nice lighting and shiney marble floors. But that is where it ends. The opposite Frankies Bar (which is actually owner by Frankie Ditori an alleged Tottenham fan-hence the name!) and nothing to do with a reference to Lambard or Chelsea which one would assume. Which I found quite funny and this is a metaphor, for the entire experience! Looks impressing from the outside, but when you discover inside you realise it's all a facade! Ok, we went out of the main tourist season in January. So prices were very competitive. But still £160 a night via an online booking site (Expedia or one of its sister companies) We had already bought tickets to the match that Saturday, so the pure convenience of staying so close was the main factor when we could of stayed closing to central London for the same price (cheaper in fact!) But we had got for the whole Chelsea experience, and it only seemed right we stay on-site. What a mistake that was!! As soon as you leave the reception and enter the actual accommodation areas its like stepping back to the 1990’s! It smells musky, the decor is tired and it just is not in keeping with the front of the hotel nor what you would expect from a 4 star hotel anywhere, let alone here! My partner went straight back to reception to complain how bad the room was as we could of just put up with it (like most people seem to do) but we really did feel tricked by the whole description and promise of luxury and assumption there would be state of the art facilities.Even a least modern ones! This hotel does not delivery any of these!!! We did go the coldest weekend of the year, (-4°c lowest) so it was cold anyway. But we entered the room to the cold aircon on full blast! I can only assume this was an attempt by the cleaners to get rid of the smell of musk, stale B.O and damp) but it was far from welcoming and the full brown, green and beige decor didn't do it any favours either. We’d been allocated the hotel directly in the left-handside which we then found out was the least modern one. And the duty Manager did promise he would move is, but had a meeting to go to so said he would deal with it a few hours later as we were off into the city after checking in anyway. So we bought our bags back down to reception waiting for later on. Lucky for us (and I say this loosely!) a lovely new receptionist had just started her shift and was very understanding to our complaint, and basically told us how she has these complaints all the time, and its even embarrassing for her! As she’s had Brides who have been in tears over similar expectations and horrified they have to spent their wedding night here! She moved us over to the other hotel block on the right which doesn't even have a receptionist, just a keycard entry system not even to Travel Lodge standard. We still hoped that this separate side of the complex would be better BUT IT WASNT! The rooms are all freezing! No central heating and an very old aircon system relying on hot air to add a bit of heat to a large room. Plugs not PACT tested in years, cracked ceiling, leaky showers and grubby. I'm still waiting for a reply to an email complaint over a...
Read moreIt's definitely not a 4-star hotel. If i have to be honest, it is more like a 2-star hotel. Check-in was okay, but not much information was given other than where your room is located. Would be nice to have a little bit of information to give to guests in regards to the hotel, like where the restaurants are, etc. For example, they have 2 buildings. The building i was put on didn't have a water fountain. So i had to walk outside my building to the other building just to grab water. Where then could had simple had another water fountain in each building. Another thing is if you have friends and each gets put into 2 different buildings, the room key card does not work on the other building to go to the different floors. The key card only works on your own building, and you have to call your friend or family member to come get you in the lobby area. I dont see why one key can't work in both buildings. There is no receptionist in one of the buildings. If you need to talk to them in person, you have to walk over the same process in getting your water. The reason i said this is because i called to request a breakfast to be delivered to my room the night before. I was told i can't do it over the phone and that i had to request it in person. I dont see why i couldn't do it over the phone rather than in person, especially if my building had no receptionist. Lastly, the housekeeping is not sure what other word i can use, but lazy. On my first day, i noticed there was hair underneath the bedsheet, i was in a rush that morning, so i didn't bother calling because the housekeeper had not come to my room. I came in super late, and it seems the bed was done, and sheets were changed. The next morning, i noticed it was the same hair in the same exact spot. So to give benefits of doubt, i left my room and went to enjoy London a little bit. When i returned later that day, the bed was done. Again, the bedsheets appeared to be changed and done. I decided to take a look, and boom, the hair is still there at the exact spot. So i went and spoke with the receptionist, and she told me that the bedsheets get changed every 2 days. By my calculations, Friday night and Saturday night, that's 2 days. Meaning that the housekeeper are not doing their job. To fix the issue, the receptionist offered to change the bedsheets, and i showed the housekeeper the hair underneath the bedsheets. Her response was that they did change the sheets and that the hair fell off while they were changing the bedsheets. I explained to her why i believe that was not the case. The housekeeper got very defensive and say "that not possible." Again, she asked if I would like the bedsheets to be changed. i said yes. I also had to change my iron table sheet because it was dirt and had blood stains. The bathroom anti slip mat was very yellow and dirt. They also do not refill the amenities in the room. I had used instant coffee and milk on my first morning there, and they have yet to refill. The tv in the room is very small. I can go on and on about the little things around the room. Overall, a team as big as Chelsea FC to have a hotel that is not up to standard for a 4-star hotel is very...
Read moreMy wife and I love doing road trips and staying in quirky hotels, so staying at Chelsea football club seemed perfect to stay close to the city with easy transport to catch a show, but sadly we were left disappointed and it started at check in.
Upon arriving we parked our car in the underground car park and headed to the front desk in the Millennium building. We were given our room key and told we were actually staying in the Copthorne building opposite, but that we could access the hotel via the lift in the car park as we had luggage.
We collected our luggage from the car and headed to the lift for the copthorne which was only accessible through a locked door with a keypad and card reader, but our card did not open the door.
We then had to head back across the car park and up to the reception for the Copthorne, putting our luggage back in the car as it was too heavy to drag up the stairs. Upon reaching reception we were greeted by a very abrupt blond lady and i began to explain that we were unable to access the lift to get our luggage up to our room and she proceeded to look at me and speak to me in a very condescending manor as though I was thick. After trying several times to explain the issue she simply barked at me "show me". So we took the lift to the car park and once on the other side of the door i proceeded to show her our key would not open it. She then said "Oh! this door shouldn't be shut" and wedged the door open and said "now you can get in" and went back to reception without so much as an apology.
We then went to our room and found further disappointment, as for this standard of hotel I expected better. The bathroom was like something from the late 90's and the room and furnishings were no better than a basic 2 star hotel.
It also became clear that the toilet wasn't flushing properly, we reported this to reception and were told someone would be up to fix it and we didn't need to be there for them to do so, so as we were only there for one night we decided to make do and headed to the city to catch our show.
Upon returning late that evening the toilet hadn't been fixed but as it was late we just headed to bed. Sadly we couldn't even have a good night sleep as despite our room being down the corridor and on the opposite side, all we could hear was the screeching of the lift when it was operated.
The final nail in the coffin for this hotel is the cost of parking, at £36 per night it is actually more expensive than most city center hotels and there is no discount for hotel guests.
So unless this hotel holds some special value to you i.e you are a chelsea fan, I would honestly look for...
