Both my partner and I recently attended here for a meal. We both opted for the Sirloin meal and a starter. We placed our order and got some drinks.
We waited at the table for over an hour and then I decided to enquire as to where the food was. One lady said she would check and come back to us, and failed to come back. After a further 15 minutes I checked in with the lady that took the initial order and was told two minutes. A further 10 minutes later the food came out.
The steaks were well done (despite asking for both to be medium rare). Both came with onion rings despite one being asked to be with mushrooms. One plate got 5 onion rings, the other only 2....
Both were meant to come with peppercorn sauce. Yet one came with Diane sauce. When I stated that both were meant to be ppercorn the server said I'll get that changed right away.
After 20 minutes and practically finishing the meal (we were already late for our forward destination by 40 minutes) we was asked if everything was OK. I explained all the issues (the sauce still hadn't been changed at this point) and the server said would we like drinks on the house. When I explained we was already late and didn't have time and would it be possible to be refunded for the starter instead and maybe a small discount. He said sure, disappeared and never came back.
The steak was of ok quality but was cooked so long that it was like chewing on a leather soled flip flop. The peas were undercooked and still raw leaving a small portion of onion rings, a tiny starter (which arrived with the meal) and some chips to enjoy.
Considering it wasn't busy at the time and there was an abundance of staff, I felt wholly disappointed and that the staff let the place down. I think our order of food was just forgotten and as a whole the lack of customer service has resulted in an unsatisfied customer that won't be returning, which is a shame as I had previously had a nice meal there. But considering we parted with £50 for a substandard meal and incredibly poor customer service I simply won't be returning.
I am sure the place will still thrive as Alcohol sales seem to be the main driving force behind this place.
Best of luck to the Jolly Fenman in the future and I hope that you improve upon the staff and quality control of the...
Read moreI booked a table on Monday 1st May for 3 people around 2 ish for food and it was busy . We were told it would be a 45 minute wait for food which we accepted . However, 45 mins came and went and still no food had arrived.. I had come with 2 people that worked for a green king pub who were due to start their shift at 5pm and we allowed plenty of time for us to eat and then get to work . There were other tables that had also been waiting longer than us ..it got to nearly an hour and 45 mins of waiting before we eventually got our food which admittedly was nice . I know this pub has been recently refurbished and looks very modern however, i feel they still need to get their house in order . They would have known what bookings they had - its a big pub and i get the feeling that not enough staff were put in the kitchen to cope with the demand of a bank holiday Monday . This could potentially be a greene king issue i am not sure ? At this point i must say that the staff were very polite and understood our fustration and i do not blame them at all as they compensated us adequately for the inconvenience . I feel that Greene king should appreciate that this is a busy pub , its just been renovated and you want people through the door but you cannot expect people to have to wait that length of time for food , it is not acceptable level of service from a greene king pub or any pub for that matter. It is the first time we have had to wait this long at any establishment for food to be served .We had to scoff the food down and did not have time to even try the dessert ! As mentioned before, the staff were very polite and that deserves to be pointed out . I hope this is just teething troubles and will be sorted out soon given there are few bank holiday weekends coming up - the garden area looks lovely and i do hope to come here again and have a...
Read moreToday I was joined with friends at the pub didn’t realise at the time there was too big football matches going on on big screens, but that was fine because atmosphere was good.. I wish I could say that about the food, six of us had roast dinners 4 at to go back because it was so dried up I wish I’d taken a picture now ,the food didn’t look much better .. I waited so long so did a few others an hour and a half for hamburger it was ridiculous, In the end. A few of us got a refund went and eat somewhere else being a big crowd there with the football going on. There was queues for the bar it took my husband 20 minutes to get served. I must say , the two staff that were serving ,which should’ve been at least five bar staff .. there was a few people abusing the staff because they wasn’t serving quick enough, but the young fellas stayed calm and done well I have praise them for coping.. for being so polite, I spoke to a young fella after his name was Daniel Clark. I told him he done a good job by coping and dealing with the customers, when he told me how old he was I was blown away as he handled the crowds very well, but I think this should be higher management to realise they were short-staffed.. on a Sunday with a big crowds knowing football was on the big screens.. The only thing I can say is the atmosphere was good the staff did there best ,I noticed customers were telling other customers not to bother to order the food because they would wait at least two hours there was children with them . Now the pubs been decorated it’s a nice place to go but pay more staff when football is on well done to...
