I am writing to express my deep disappointment following a distressing experience at The Bolt Hole Micro Pub, which left me feeling humiliated, uncomfortable, and unfairly judged.
During a recent visit, I was approached by the owner, Jan, who accused me of taking drugs based solely on the fact that I used the toilet a few times. At no point was I disruptive or inappropriate — I was simply managing a private medical condition that requires me to use the restroom more frequently than average. Instead of approaching the situation with understanding or discretion, Jan hovered outside the toilet area and questioned my behaviour in an accusatory manner.
To make matters worse, I was not asked to leave but was made to feel unwelcome and scrutinised for something entirely beyond my control. As the pub quieted down and a few people left, she refused to serve me further, not due to any behaviour on my part, but because she “wanted to go home early.” This felt more like an excuse than a genuine reason, especially following the earlier treatment I received.
Jan’s conduct was not only unprofessional, but it also showed a total lack of awareness or sensitivity toward hidden disabilities. It is essential for public-facing business owners — especially those running hospitality venues — to understand that not all disabilities are visible. I was made to feel ashamed for needing to use the toilet and found myself trying to “hold it in” just to avoid further judgment or confrontation.
This experience was incredibly upsetting, and while I had previously enjoyed visiting this venue, I would not feel comfortable returning unless serious steps were taken to address this behaviour. I strongly suggest that Jan consider undertaking training on disability awareness and professional pub management, particularly with a focus on inclusivity and respectful customer interaction.
No one should be made to feel guilty or ashamed for managing a medical condition. I hope this feedback is taken seriously and leads to...

Two real ales, various ciders, spirit drinks and cocktails make a comprehensive choice possibility. Bar snacks well stocked.
Noisy customers with loud raucous laughs demonstrate the acoustic disadvantages of being in a shop unit. You have to time your own chat before the next peal of jokes/stories/laughs from across the room.
All told a pleasant visit ending too...

Good selection of beers. Drinks were ice cold and of good quality. Clean throughout including the toilets. Prices were reasonable. Would recommend and will...
