I visited Katsuro, a new tonkatsu restaurant, on a Saturday afternoon and made a reservation to avoid the lunch rush. The atmosphere was calm and welcoming, a good spot to settle in for a comforting meal.

I ordered the premium tonkatsu infused with truffle oil, which is only available in limited servings each day — so it’s best to go early or reserve in advance if you want to try it. The set came with cabbage salad, miso soup, pickled radish, and a bowl of rice. Alongside the tonkatsu were simple accompaniments — a pinch of salt, a touch of wasabi, and tonkatsu sauce — giving diners different ways to enjoy the pork.

The first two slices of the tonkatsu were mostly fatty — rich in flavor but a little tough to chew. Once I got to the meat, though, it was excellent: tender, juicy, and never dry. Each condiment brought something unique: the sauce added sweetness, while the wasabi gave a refreshing lift that paired beautifully with the pork. The only letdown was the rice, which was a bit too wet and tended to stick together.

Overall, Katsuro delivers a satisfying tonkatsu experience with quality meat and thoughtful presentation. The fat-to-meat balance could be improved, and the rice needs some fine-tuning, but the tenderness and juiciness of the pork made it a memorable meal. Definitely worth a visit — especially if you manage to secure the...

A perfect addition to St John’s Hill foodie scene, a brand spanking new Japanese Tonkatsu restaurant. You’d expect them to be good at their signature premium tonkatsu pork dish and they nailed it. Coated in super crispy Panko breadcrumbs the pork loin inside is not only large but juicy and dripping with flavour. The pork tenderloin was equally tasty and juicy with a light breaded coat and more leaner meat. The sets were served with rice, miso soup and the usual pickles and sauces, although special mention goes out to the truffle sauce with the premium tonkatsu which added a depth to the dish. The karaage chicken was also nice bite sized chicken with a lightly crispy coat, which held in the juicy chicken nicely. With beer and sake on hand, you’ve got everything you need for a proper tasty Japanese experience. The staff were also super friendly and welcoming and the meal was good value considering the quality of the meat. Will definitely be back to sample more tasty dishes at this great addition...

I visited Katsuro and ordered the chicken katsu, absolutely incredible. The coating was crisp and light, not greasy, and the chicken inside was tender and juicy. The crisp was sensational; every bite had that satisfying crunch that makes a proper katsu dish memorable.

The tonkatsu sauce complemented it perfectly; rich, balanced, and not overly salty. Presentation was clean and appealing, and the portion size was generous without being excessive.

Service was efficient and polite, and the restaurant itself had a calm, tidy atmosphere. You can tell they care about consistency and quality.

Overall, a brilliant experience from start to finish. Easily a 10/10 meal, and I’ll definitely be coming back for that...

Really tender and well fried tonkatsu - we had the premium katsu and the katsuro special, both are delicious and portion size is good, especially the katsuro special which has tonkatsu + menchi katsu. The side dish / sauce, salad and soup are nice touch. Feels very authentic overall. Restaurant is really nice, clean and quite spacious. They are dog friendly and we brought our husky who also loved the katsu. Service is really good too, albeit it can get bit busy. Price is slightly higher but the quality is definitely there, and weekday lunch set looks really good value for money. Overall, would definitely recommend and will be here a lot if we lived closer.
