Visited today for my mums birthday and was our first visit. As we are Turkish it’s hard to find good Turkish restaurants locally.
When we arrived I had made a reservation but the waiter looked like he had no idea, luckily it was empty so he just sat us down. We ordered the starter cold Meze, Sharing platter for 5 people and a chicken iskender and 2 chips portions. The cold meze’s were such small portions but a massive bread basket it was akward to share between the table as the bowls were not big enough for the meze’s. When the mains came, all the meat was cold, the chips were white and not cooked fully and again warm, must have been made and sat under the pass light. When we raised it with the waitress she said ‘well if you want I can change it for you’ and we said yes please, when my mum was explaining it to her she said ‘can I?’ As in ‘can I speak now’, which we felt was a bit rude. She took the food and then brought it back out 10 mins later. The chips were hot and fresh. The meat however was still just about lukewarm and not hot again. When the platter first came it was arranged beautifully, second time it came the meat was just chucked on top of eachother. I am presuming the owner then came to check on us, and we explained the issues, he decided to give us tea and a dessert on the house. This was a nice gesture but it did not compensate for the cold food and the cost of the food at the end. A gesture for discounting the platter which was unfinished, would have been sufficient enough instead. The bill came to somewhere around £283, which for cold food was well not worth it. We left feeling very disappointed and upset as our mums birthday meal was not upto par at all. The staff were friendly but seemed very inexperienced and didn’t know half the things we asked for (white wine spritzer, mocktail mojito with lemonade not soda, 2 cokes).
Overall unfortunately we won’t be going back again and would not recommend it. It’s a shame as a new venue we had...
Read moreThis is my first visit to this recently opened Turkish restaurant, where it used to be Langleys.
The first thing I noticed, was how warm and cosy it was, even though it’s a big space. It was always cold in here before this new venture took over. Thank you for heating the place properly. Some lovely ambient Turkish music was playing at just the right volume.
There is an excellent set lunch time menu, which is exceptional value. Lots of options on there to choose from. Everything I tried was cooked and flavoured perfectly. Really yummy. The service was efficient and friendly. Their ala carte menu is also really good, with lots of tempting options. Fair pricing here too. Most of the dishes are really heathy and balanced. No oily deep fried breadcrumbed food in sight, thankfully. Only delicious big flavours. Everything is cooked from scratch, included their outstanding flat bread. I plan to try it all. The drinks list is good and they have a nice bar too. Their Turkish tea afterwards with a sweet treat was gorgeous.
They are soon to introduce daily breakfast buffets here and the options look very good, as well as quite healthy. I will definitely be going along.
I hope that Surbie locals will support this fab and friendly Turkish restaurant, so that it thrives and stays. Well done to all at Kebir and thank you. I will definitely be a...
Read moreI recently visited Kebir Turkish Kitchen in Surbiton and was thoroughly impressed. From the moment we walked in, the atmosphere was warm and inviting — cozy decor with traditional touches that make you feel like you’ve stepped into a family-run spot in Istanbul.
The food? Absolutely outstanding. We started with the mixed meze platter, which was fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. Every bite — from the creamy hummus to the smoky baba ghanoush — tasted homemade and authentic. For mains, the lamb shish and chicken beyti were grilled to perfection, tender and full of flavor, served with fluffy rice and fresh salad. The portions were generous without being overwhelming.
What really sets Kebir apart is the service. The staff were attentive, friendly, and clearly passionate about the food they serve. They were more than happy to explain dishes and make recommendations, which made the experience even more enjoyable.
To top it off, we finished with a cup of strong Turkish coffee and a piece of baklava that was perfectly sweet and flaky.
If you’re in Surbiton and craving Turkish food, Kebir is an absolute gem. It’s clear they take pride in what they do — and it shows in every detail. Highly...
