Ploy’s Thai Bistro is definitely between the top 3 thai restaurants I’ve tried in all of London and believe me I’ve tried many! The only other one that comes close is Chim’s Thai but it is further out from Surbiton and if we look at specific dishes like the pineapple fried rice I can confidently say it’s the absolute best at Ploy’s! They are also very friendly nice people, and they can adjust any dish on their menu as you want it tweaked. For example I always ask not to put eggs in the fried rice and also to put half carrots - half broccolis in the side dish which on the menu is just broccoli in garlic and oyster sauce and they have absolutely no problems doing that. I have to note here, this side dish is so simple yet so many places get it wrong and either the garlic-oyster sauce is not balanced right or lacks flavour, or the broccoli is overcooked and too mushy and so on…here it’s absolutely perfect harmony and it’s the best version of it I’ve ever had anywhere!!! It also goes so well together with the fried rice or curries. I just discovered Ploy’s a couple of weeks ago and only tried a few dishes, the udon noodles were nice too but their pineapple fried rice is so good with the broccoli-carrot in garlic oyster sauce side dish, I have been ordering only that one multiple times and I am yet to try more dishes from their menu;) I’m so happy Ploy is located so close to us, I will definitely order from here at least once a week or more;) Btw they are not just on Deliveroo, but they have a nice website too where you can order for delivery too and last time I ordered a friendly guy brought my order within half an hour piping hot! Top service, top top quality authentic thai food with the fresh ingredients in perfect harmony, I honestly couldn’t ask for more. It is a real...
Read moreWe didn't know that this tiny restaurant was under new ownership (the last version wasn't great - honestly). My partner is Thai and we're very wary of Thai food in the UK (she won't go near the chains like Bus'ba, G'Squid, Thai sq etc - expensive tasteless, unauthentic) but something made us give this Ploy's bistro a go. How glad we were that we did! I've never seen my wife so happy in a UK Thai restaurant. Run by owner Ploy (very friendly = authentic!) cooking by her mum (also = v.authentic) the menu covers all the main items that a Thai would expect to see back home. None of the chinese/vietnamese "shortcuts" like spring rolls (ugghhhh!). The Pad Sii yiew was great, lovely slabs of moist wide noodles with really hearty marinated tofu (this was a vegetarian version). The wife had a Som tam - thought it was great, good balance of palm sugar/Lime juice and Chillis - result -v.happy. Also the Barbecued Chicken was great and finally the Mango and sticky rice used (confirmed) Thai mangos- not the over sweet ones from India. Don't expect the food not to be authentic - it will be full of flavour (including chilli) and if you want less flavour, ask, I'm sure they'll oblige! It's a tiny place with one (great) person in the kitchen so don't suddenly go in and ask for a table for ten (!) perhaps give them some warning. Once folks discover this place it will be hard to get in there (great for them, no good for us - this review won't help!). Other independent Thai place have shone briefly and then gone way downhill - I expect this one to remain true to itself. I wish them well and we will be very regular visitors. Richard...
Read moreAfter reading so many positive comments, we decided to visit Ploy's Thai Bistro with a group of friends and family.
The food was absolutely delicious and authentic. All dishes are good size and reasonable priced, offering good value for money; whilst staff were attentively, friendly and warm welcome.
We got off a great start with Thai fish cakes, prawn crackers and Thai calamari which was absolutely tasty.
Drink: Thai Iced Tea - refreshing, pleasant and earthy, sweet taste.
As per main courses, we ordered a signature dish: Ka Prao Kai Dao (an aromatic spices, chilies and holy basil - topped up with crispy fried egg, served with rice).
And Khao Soi with Grilled Chicken (creamy, slightly spicy yellow curry noodles, originating in Northern Thailand, my hometown : ) a must try!!)
Pad See Eiw, Pad Kee Mao, Guay Tiew Kua Gai - well seasoned and full of flavours cooked with freshly made noodles, which gives it a nice soft texture.
Follows by Grilled Chicken, Larb - Grilled Duck with fresh herbs, spicy red chili flakes, a well-balanced lime juice dressing, together with Thai sticky rice.
Finishing off with desserts: Mango sticky rice and homemade Ice cream.
Ploy's Thai Bistro has exceeded our expectation in every way. We can’t wait to be back -...
