2 YEARS AGO: Lovely restaurant. Food is delicious and staff friendly.
Unfortunately their website is not mobile friendly (unacceptable in today's world) and they advertise offers the staff are not aware of. (Sunday-Thursday Dine In with 25% off). Went on Sunday and staff had no idea what I was talking about. Had to show them on the website. Even then they didn't do anything about it. (Though accepted a different offer they also didn't know about š¤¦)
Bill includes "optional" 12.5% service charge. We were happy with the service so we left it, but personally hate when restaurants do that. Would have left a much bigger tip if there was no service charge š¤·
We will definitely be back as the food was delicious (and the wine!), Or maybe order take out from them. The website and the offers really need a lot of work though.
EDIT - 2025 Went last night for a meal. Understandably, they were very busy as it was New Years Eve. However, everything that could have gone wrong, did. Extreme waiting times. Wrong drinks and food delivered. One of the waitresses was extremely rude and unprofessional. Clearly mocking colleagues AND customers in the restaurant. When we asked for plates to share the starters delivered, they brought the dirty side plates they had just taken from our table (used for poppadoms).
From the point we sat down, it took 2.5 hours to get our mains (even though they were supposed to arrive WITH starters) just for some of the items to be incorrect. We asked for take out boxes as at this point we were extremely fed up and just wanted to leave.
Several groups just got up and left due to the lack of service throughout our visit and many people waiting for take out complained as we could hear from our table.
We were incredibly patient and determined not let this ruin our night for the first 2 hours but enough is enough. I can't even name all of the things that went wrong. There were so many. Including all staff just frantically running around constantly delivering the wrong items to incorrect tables and arguing amongst themselves Infront of the customers.
We had a voucher (we purchased specifically for this visit) which covered 90% of the final bill. We asked the owner to reduce the bill by the remaining amount given the horrendous experience. Which he did. However he did mention that he just gave us the food for free as he doesn't get anything from the voucher purchase. Which to me seems like he needs to rethink his business model.
I would be tempted to give them another try but I am not confident I can expect fair and professional service if we were to return.
Food was nice but we were disappointed there were no tea options on the menu as we would expect in an...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI'd like to give huge credit to these guys. We had a bad experience on New Year's Eve in which the order was exceedingly late and items were substituted out prior to arrival without our knowledge. We gave a poor review for the service (but reasonably enjoyed the food we had received), and thought nothing more of it.
A few days after my review, we received a phone call from one of the managers of the restaurant who was incredibly apologetic for the service. Some restaurants would look at a poor review and respond with a defensive comment without attempting to rectify the issue, but Royal Kitchen decided to proactively change our minds. They offered us our meal again on the house, and despite my other half stating that we are happy to pay for the food, Royal Kitchen insisted that they cook for us for free as an apology.
Fast forward to this evening and the delivery was perfectly on time (dropped off by both of the managers personally who were incredibly friendly and wanted to apologise in person for our first experience). It was faultless and was an exceptional level of service to have received. They even gifted us a bottle of wine, chocolates, and a beer, which was a really touching gesture. It wasn't necessary, but they really went the extra mile to keep our custom, and it reflected a brilliant level of care for their customers.
The food itself was delicious, and a complete step up from the things we had received in our previous order. We got to try the Dum Aloo on this occasion (that we hadn't received before) which we were thrilled about, and it really didn't disappoint! As someone who does struggle a little with spices and heat, I did have to take a little break from my Old Delhi Chicken Gem, but the flavour was excellent (despite my wimpy taste buds!) on this dish, just as it was with all of the others.
Everything was labelled clearly and we had some extra sauces thrown in with the Khichyia which was delightful. The portion sizes were really good and more than enough for two of us. At full price, the food is about average for the area, which is nice considering that the meal definitely felt like better quality than some Indian restaurants in the area.
I can't fault Royal Kitchen for the way in which they were striving to make amends for their service on our first experience, and how the management personally sought to do this. They could have ignored my feedback and just carried on, but they knew that they were far better than what we had experienced, and they wanted to prove that. They absolutely smashed it with the whole package and we have to thank them for a brilliant meal. They've certainly changed my mind, and we will be ordering from them...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreBeen ordering from these guys for years.
They run out of a dish, so sent my order without it. Took full money. They did try to call me once but i was unavailable.
They were unable to re deliver a replacement and i was not in a position to go pick up.
Michelle who took my call was on the defensive, spoke over me and quick to get me off the phone. The manager refused to speak with me even though he was standing right next to her and i could hear him. She also refused to give me his name.
Very unprofessional, such a shame as i liked their food but i wonāt be ordering from them again.
They made the mistake, they could have held my order and tried calling again explaining they had sold out and waited to hear from me to ask for a replacement dish. But they didnt. They deivered my order less one main dish and still charged me for the dish!
Then they got all aggy when i asked them to drop it off, im literally down the road from them any driver could drop it off en route to another delivery.
I paid cash, they said they will refund the dish, letās see.
So disappointed in their behaviour.
Last point - donāt bother order in the onion bhajis, they always arrive burnt! Even though ive told them countless times they over cook it.
Any other recommendations for a good indian take away?
Maybe i should get off my tired arse and stick to cooking my own!
Edit - 16/11/22
Mus the owner called me up and apologised for the service I received. He was very kind, understanding and agreed my order should not have been sent out incomplete. He also assured me this experience would be used to train staff to handle situations a bit better.
Upon reflection, I should not have turned to the internet to complain, it seems a default reaction in this day and age so i have come back to amend my review and change my rating.
The food here is delicious, though the onion bhajis are over cooked! Everything else is lovely and authentic.
People work hard to build a business, and thereās a lot that goes into it, and I donāt want to be a negative troll that slanders a business over a staff member.
So ive left my review here as is, as part apology and part experience to not trust all negative reviews, we donāt know the full context.
I will order from Royal...
