Great food let down by staff and quality control. I've been coming to this place for years, but we've had issues on the last 3 visits and I won't be coming again as a result.
In reverse order of the issus; I went this past Saturday afternoon (05 July), and food was good until we got to the desssert. I ordered the tiramasu, and my wife order a hot drink with the small tiramasu. She asked for oat milk and upon making her tea, she saw the milk had gone off, there was loads of bits at the top of the milk and you could clearly see it was off, and the waiter said sorry and didnt have another carton of oat milk so she had to get a herbal tea. Now to the tiramisu, instead of drizzling chocolate on the side, they put balsamic vinegar, it was ridiculous, how do they get the 2 confused? Took loads of the sauce and had a bite and it tasted rank, I told the waiter, and he shook his head and said it was the kitchen.
The previous 2 times before this weekend, the waitress did not write the order down and messed up both times giving the wrong order. My wife asked for a mushroom pizza and they gave a plain pizza, and then when they re-made it, you could tell they rushed it because it looked nothing like the first one, and I had to eat my food before it got cold and they did not say to keep mine warm whilst my wife's pizza arrived.
And then the other time was the same waitress who again didn't write the order down and got my wife's order wrong as well as our friend. Funny thing is I predicted the waitress would mess up the order because she was distracted, she had a friend walk in and kept talking to them most of the time instead of attending the tables. Wasn't great service.
This weekends was the final straw, won't be going again, which is a shame because the food is good, but the level of service isn't great. More so since they increased...
Read moreWe came here on the recommendations of a friend but we've never experience such racist treatment, being of non white origin it was more than obvious of our seating position as well as the mannerisms of the staff towards us as oppose to other guest, very nice with smiles and courtesy but when they came to us a long time after being seated you could literally see the contempt they had for us. Took about half an hour to get our drinks and after we felt rushed as if they just wanted to get us out. Some things in Life are just Noticeable and we could read this one with our eyes closed...kept seeing the staff looking at us as if we were in a zoo and laughing. Worst of all we paid over hundred pounds for the privileged to feel like third rate citizens, I was born in this country and have obviously experienced underhanded racism but this was the worst. If we were people who didn't carry ourselves with humbleness or were rude we would understand there behaviour, but we were nice and totally well behaved. My advise is if you're not White maybe...
Read moreLo Zafferano is a New Restaurant on the site of the now closed La Scarpetta. Lo Zafferano opened its doors on the 7 November 2022 with a new manager and head chef (who are also the new owners!). All reviews before this date should be disregarded!
We had a really enjoyable evening here tonight... we started with a couple of excellent Negroni cocktails and some great homemade focaccia. We shared a starter of grilled squid with salami which was great, the squid being very tender. My calves liver was perfect: really thin slices, not overcooked with a balanced sauce with onions. My wife had the mixed grilled fish which was deftly cooked, lightly seasoned and had a great variety! We finished by sharing a peice of their homemade Tres Leche cake with Italian meringue - stunning!
A small but perfectly formed wine list is available and a comprehensive cocktail menu as well.
Warm, genuine and friendly service and the pride of the 2 owners was very evident!
Highly recommended and Lo Zafferano deserves to...
