Awful service. Apparently the owner/manager was away, so maybe weād have had a better service if heād been around to manage the 3 staff better. Had to ask to give our food order 40 mins after arriving. Starters came, mine was lukewarm. We had to ask for our starter plates to be cleared and then chase our mains (weād now been in the restaurant for over 1.5 hrs). My friendās main was served with a hair on the plate/in the garnish. The waitress sorted that quickly to be fair, taking the plate away and returning quickly with a new dish. We opted not to pay the service charge because of all this. When I told the waitress, she couldnāt quite compute taking the Ā£14 (discretionary!) service charge off, so had to speak to her colleague. After about 10 mins conversation at the bar between all 3 waiting staff a different server charged down the restaurant holding the card machine and told me he couldnāt remove the service charge. I told him he could and would otherwise weād pay nothing. Eventually they reduced it but it wasnāt with an apology, but instead a huge huff and moaning at why theyāre busy etc. just an all round disappointing experience that still...

The food at Mazu is 5 star. Arrian the chef is a lovely person and passionate about providing only the best fresh ingredients on his menu. Taking great care to personally select the meat and fish that grace his tables. Whether you like the Pasta dishes or a delicious steak you will not be disappointed. The food is beautifully presented and you can see and taste that great care has gone into making every dish into a mouth watering treat. After a Mojito cocktail (delicious) I opted for the Hot King prawn starter followed by fillet steak. The prawns were so chewy. Either they were overcooked or reheated but prawns are one of the easiest things to cook. The fillet steak arrived and looked like no fillet cut I have ever seen. The outside of the meat was pale so Iām unsure of their process (steamed?) but there was certainly no evidence of the Maillard reaction.
