MELTED ice-cream!!!
I don't live very close but during the lockdown I had long walks and discovered this place. It's not cheap - £2.80 one scoop - but I tried the ice-cream and I can tell they are freshly made (in fact, they told me they make them there, in the kitchen! WOW, it's rare to find fresh ice cream). They also make unusual flavours like mojito, piñata colada, exotic fruit...
A couple of weeks ago I went there during the weekend with my family and few friends living in the area, all looking forward to see what tasty flavours they had that day. Once there (only 11am!!!) ALL the ice-creams didn't look well at all...They were very flat seemed a bit melted. My kid ordered first and when they tried to make a scoop (biscoff flavour) , it was literally MELTED like a milkshake!!! Totally disgusting and not at all tasty as I expected!!! My husband and friends noticed it too and politely left the shop. I obviously asked the staff an explanation and all replying vaguely like "well, it's hot today, it's normal...fridge is slow... Freezing issues... Until yesterday was ok" Well, I'm from Greece and trust me, in any ice-cream shop you find proper ice-cream even at 45°C!!! I PAID £2.80 for the melted ice-cream and left... They could have sold 5-6 ice-creams!!!
The following week , one of my friends living in the area passed by in different days and CONFIRMED that ALL THE ICE-CREAMS were still in the same state : MELTED!!! She told me she even stopped walking in that area as after 3 times, still no proper ice-cream! It's totally unacceptable and don't think I'll go back soon seen the situation. Staff is quite young so maybe don't even care but I wonder where the owner is: that ice-cream fridge is clearly broken and kept it for days without...
Read moreA very friendly and quaint café, in my opinion a highlight of what Blackheath has to offer for shoppers and visitors alike. The choice of hot chocolate is particularly fantastic, and coffee is certainly of good quality. Really good to see that staff are kind and cheerful, a thing often lacking at franchise coffee shops. Also a big plus that there is a functioning toilet, something that is becoming increasingly uncommon these days. A perfect spot to unwind or refuel during either a walk along the heath or after a Sunday market shop. The Caffe-Nero-style 10th drink for free is also an advantage it if you're a frequent visitor to the village. As to the shortcomings: There is no "in" option for smoothies so that they would be served in glasses. Sometimes also the taking and fulfilling of orders gets a little disorganised, but generally I haven't witnessed anyone not get what they order. Also, perhaps this place would feel less cramped if there was a one-way system on weekends when the coffee shop gets very busy with families etc. Overall, I think it's a well-balanced place, neither pretentious nor undermaintained, and a great spot for lovers of...
Read moreA real shame with this place. Crepes are actually delicious, as are the waffles, if not a bit overpriced.
Sadly, really let down by a lot of things. Extremely slow and inconsistent service. My friend's crepe arrived in 2 minutes while the rest of ours arrived in 45 minutes. When our orders did arrive, they were constantly incorrect and had to be sent back multiple times. On another occasion, I went in alone and my one crepe took 40 minutes when it wasn't that busy. The other day, the final straw was when I arrived at 5:30pm (8pm closing time according to their door and website), to be told they're not serving food any more and that they're closing at 7pm..
Any place that decides as and when they want to open and close, instead of following their own advertised opening times, should be avoided. Just shows a complete lack of care and respect. Such a shame.
Edit: Please read the owner's reply. Instead of addressing the issues I've stated, they've simply been passive-aggressive and pretty arrogant about things. Pretty pathetic and childish. Looks like individual responsibility really is out of the...
