If it werenât for social media and the faint hum of influencers on Chiswick Common Road, Iâd have missed Matchado completely. Blink and youâll miss it!
What began as a mobile matcha truck in Kingâs Cross now has a permanent home in west London. Itâs a sleek, compact cafĂ© that feels more like a matcha shrine than your average coffee stop. Small? Yes. Mighty? Absolutely.
Muted sage tones, clean lines, and a footprint that could politely be described as tight. But it works. Inside, the vibe is quiet confidence. Not trying to impress, just vibing in its own beautifully curated lane. Thereâs a short counter, a couple of stools, and a niche retail shelf stocked with ceremonial-grade tins, handmade ceramics and, naturally, a cookbook dedicated to baking with green tea.
But the real magic? Itâs in the cup.
We tried the Strawberry Iced Matcha Latte, the Brown Sugar Iced Matcha Latte, and a final flourish with the matcha affogato. All three were spot-on. The strawberry version was visually stunning and miraculously not sickly: clean, fruity, and balanced like itâs been doing yoga since birth. The brown sugar one had proper depth, without tipping into dessert territory. You still knew you were drinking matcha, not some syrup-soaked cosplay. And the affogato? A green tea twist on the Italian classic that actually worked. Creamy, punchy, and stupidly addictive.
The menu is focused but well-considered. Alongside the hero matcha drinks, thereâs hojicha, genmaicha, and even classic coffee for the caffeine agnostics. A small selection of Japanese-inspired patisserie adds to the charm: matcha cheesecakes, dorayaki, and bakes that whisper "refined" rather than shout "treats!"
Now, the one caveat: seating. There are a few stools inside and a handful of metal chairs out front. It's a decent perch if the sunâs out and Chiswick Common is doing its Sunday match day thing. Otherwise, itâs very much a grab-and-go setup. Sadly, we witnessed a classic London faux pas: people turning their one lonely latte into a full-on picnic. Matchado deserves better. Support your locals properly.
Service was lovely: quick, warm, and no side-eye if you fumble your order or donât know your hojicha from your genmaicha. The team clearly care. You can feel it the second you walk in.
Matchado is the real deal. A sleek, low-key matcha bar that balances Japanese tradition with London cool. Itâs camera-ready, sure, but itâs also full of flavour, charm, and quiet substance. Youâll want to shout about it. But also? Kinda want to keep it...
Read moreI am writing to formally complain about an unacceptable experience at Matchado in Chiswick, where I have been a loyal customer for almost a year. On this visit, I was served by someone new, who introduced himself as Ryota, the manager. I ordered a brown sugar matcha with an extra shot, which I paid for. When I tasted it, it was noticeably weak and clearly did not have the strength I expected from the extra shot. I politely asked for more matcha, but instead of addressing my request professionally, Ryota immediately began laughing. He continued to laugh throughout the entirety of our conversation, which was condescending, belittling, and incredibly unprofessional. I reiterated that I had paid for the extra shot, but he dismissed my concern by saying he had already added it, making no effort to resolve the issue. His behaviour was disrespectful, and the prolonged laughter made me feel embarrassed and humiliated in front of others.
This is the first time I have ever been treated this way at your café, the female staff have always been professional and courteous. But this interaction was shocking and unacceptable. When I asked for his name to make a complaint, he told me he was the manager, which made his conduct even more concerning. As a result, I will not be returning, and you have lost a regular customer.
What makes it worse is that the matcha isnât even whisked by hand. Rather poured in via a Hildon glass...
Read morethe matcha wasnât good i didnât enjoy it the slightest it was made in about 2 seconds but devoured in 1.5 seconds the service was really poor and there was no manners whatsoever. i also asked if they have have student discount which should be obvious for them to put it in cuz why else am i gonna ask for it and they didnât even put it on iâm literally a struggling teen who needs to live. you could imagine my face as i see the cost amount to 6 pounds for a drink that didnât even suffice to their expectations.Furthermore, the 2 flavours me and my friend got shockingly tasted the exact same despite it being advertised differently., which was disappointing since we paid extra for the special âflavoursâ. The horror on our faces when we realised that all the cups what were the exact same which i was disbelief in because every other popular matcha coffee shop have sizes even blank street one of the most popular matcha places. this little shop also gave us really bad stomach problems which was probably laced with laxitaves . Overall, as a matcha addict, please be aware before u think about coming to this cute little shop for a matcha date , (unless ur rich enough to deal with it). Save ur time money and dignity and take ur self someplace else with cheaper prices + better flavours (e.g black sheep coffee, ole and steen...
