Cozy atmosphere, but way too noisy on the ground floor on a weekend night. I had to speak much louder than usual to be heard, verging on shouting. Although, there is a basement area, so if you are looking forward to a nice chat with your dining partner, it is allegedly quieter. Very friendly service with a likeable and helpful staff. However, I was disappointed by the small size of my dinner. I ordered salmon with hollandaise sauce and vegetables. They gave me an average piece of salmon, which would have been fine if it had been accompanied by a reasonable amount of carbs and greens. Instead, it was about 6-7 strands of green beans, 3 pieces of baby potatoes and about 2 spoonfuls of green peas, all playing hide and seek, waiting to be found underneath the sauce. It's a fun game and also just the right amount of food for a 6-year old. As I have a healthy appetite of an adult, I ended up ordering french fries (disappointed again in the tiny amount) and crêpes for dessert, which brings me to…. For a French restaurant to have only one type of crêpe is deeply underwhelming. I expected to have at least 3-4 different kinds of fillings, such as chocolate, nutella or sweet chestnut. (I wonder why it's difficult for them to store these handy ingredients somewhere in a fridge, especially since these can be bought ready-made in a jar) Sadly the only option is a flambé kind of crêpe with pieces or orange, brandy, and a scoop of vanilla ice cream. Needless to say, the amount was not generous, again.
I also missed having a bread basket filled with baguette pieces, which in most French restaurants is a must, and on the house. It would have come handy to mop up all the juice on my plate with.
I wasn't blown away by the food I ate, nevertheless it was tasty, and I think it's the kind of dinner I could conjure up in about 45 minutes, preparation and oven heating included. It's the kind of restaurant that would be awarded Michelin stars somewhere in Northern Ukraine, but in fine-dining London it is just one of the many that try to make a living and a profit from serving tiny amounts of food for more than a tiny amount of money. Having said that, it is not an expensive restaurant, but it is pretentious enough to think it can serve you a handful amount of nourishment under a French name and believing you'll be walking away satisfied.
Since restaurants are about food experience, I am inclined to give Côte only...
Read moreWas somewhat disappointed by our experience at Cote Chiswick this afternoon. We were keen to give it a go with our kids (reasonably behaved 6 and 4) as we’ve been looking for places outside our usual rotation with a good children’s menu; Cote seemed to fit the bill. We were seated promptly and the restaurant wasn’t terribly busy, which was a plus. However, it took a fair bit of time before we were approached by a server. We placed our orders, specifying that the mushroom sauce should be omitted from our daughter’s chicken and instead of making any note of it, our server simply assured us that the chicken would come plain anyway (despite the menu stating otherwise). Lo and behold, the chicken came with mushroom sauce and had to be sent back. It was replaced promptly (thank goodness, as hanger was setting in on the 6yo), but then it took nearly a half hour from that point for the adult entrees to arrive. By then, both kids had finished eating and were understandably restless sitting at the table - my husband and I then had to rush through our meal. It would’ve been really nice if we could’ve eaten together, as was the point of dining out. Requested water for the table at the time of ordering, which didn’t arrive until we asked a second time for it when the meal was nearly finished. I will say the food was of good quality/freshly prepared/tasted very nice, however the experience was lacking due to...
Read moreWish I had read the reviews. Seems the replies from Cote will "use the comments constructively" doesn't really mean much when in actual fact food and service continue to be sub par. Let's start with service. Atrocious.4 different waiters jostling to take food and / or drinks orders. When the drinks arrived just plonked on table. Alcohol glass put in front of clearly underage daughter, we let it go. We looked through the menu and decided what we wanted, waiter comes over to take the order. We were a party of four and three of the mains we asked for were not available, pity the waiters didnt tell us this when giving us the menus when we first sat down. Next, Sharing main put in front of wrong people, again no biggie, but when we told the waiter it was for the opposite pair, here was the unbelievable response " I'll just leave it here anyway, maybe you can pass it over" this was a board of meats and accompanying sauces!! Surely the whole point of waiting on a table is to put plates in front of the right people! Food, well, bland and uninteresting. Over cooked. The chicken was dry. The minute steak tough. I do so hope that the restaurant not only take these and other comments "constructively" but actually make some positive changes so that ALL customers get great service...
