The coffee was very nice. We had an English breakfast and an Italian breakfast. The English breakfast was nice, the Italian breakfast consisted - according to the menu - of tomato, avocado and mozzarella. It had very little avocado and literally three cubes of mozzarella. We thought maybe they had run out, we mentioned it to the staff and they brought us more mozzarella which was fine and what you would expect - until they wanted to charge this as an extra portion to us...
There was no children's menu so we asked if we could have a half portion of the scrambled eggs on toast and they said yes. We were happy with that - until they still charged us full price at the end!
We questioned this when we received the bill and the waitress in charge of the bill was extremely rude (we haven't seen any behaviour and attitude like this in any place for a long time) and insisted that they would charge us the full price for half a portion of egg on toast and extra for the mozzarella.
After long discussion she took the mozzarella portion out of the bill (that we even had to fight for this!) but we payed full price for half a portion. We would have asked for the boss who possibly would or could have made up for his rude staff but we had to run as our toddler had enough.
It really is a shame because we are locals and now we don't feel like coming back anymore. 😔
update: very surprised by owner's defensive response. Whilst we understand costs implied and that reviews can be taken personally, you would think that an owner should want to make amends to unhappy loyal customers, rather than attacking them and calling them liars....
Read moreThis looks like a great little cafe – it's comfortable, has a tempting menu and the food is tasty. However, three examples of poor service means that I won't be returning, and will instead go elsewhere (luckily there are other great choices in the area). These days, when small businesses are finding things tougher, it's such a shame that the Moca Cafe doesn't value its customers more. Tea was served as a teabag in a cup, and despite the fact that we ordered food and weren't lingering over a single cup, the waitress refused to top up our cups with hot water, insisting on charging another £2.90 for a cup of tea (I don't even take milk or sugar!). The cafe was due to close at 4pm, but at 3pm we were asked to move to another table so that they could clean the one we were sitting at. The toilet closed and put out of service at 3.30pm (again for cleaning). It's understood that the staff may want to start cleaning before the cafe closes, but to do so a whole hour before closing, and making your customers feel uncomfortable, does not make good...
Read moreCosy and modern at the same time. A real find of an Italian style coffee shop come daytime restaurant. Great staff and a wide menu of very good Italian dishes. The Chef is good and the Soup is always amazing. I always feel welcome even though I don't use it as much as my wife does. Beats all the 'Starcosta's ' by a mile and the bonus is the food if you want a good meal. Always has my favourite Portuguese Custard Tarts, and you cannot have just one of those at a time can you? Great for a daytime coffee stop off, snacks , midday meals and takeaways. Shame it closes at 5.30pm as I would use it for an evening g meal on the way home after work if the wife was not cooking, or if going...
