Moral cafe — Restaurant in London

My mother and I left incredibly disappointed with both the food and the service today — and sadly, this isn’t the first time. We’ve been regular customers here for quite some time and have spent a considerable amount over the years, but after today’s experience, we’re seriously reconsidering returning.

We ordered something simple: a jacket potato with cheese and a few toppings. The potatoes arrived lukewarm, and the cheese on top was completely cold. We kindly asked if the existing cheese could be slightly melted — something that’s standard practice in most places. Instead, the plates came back smothered in an excessive amount of melted cheese, far more than we’d been served originally. We didn’t ask for extra cheese — just for the small amount that was already there to be warmed through. It felt like the kitchen staff were being deliberately over-the-top, almost as if trying to make a point.

To add to that, the server — a blonde Eastern European lady with glasses — seemed visibly annoyed when we asked for the plates to be corrected. Her attitude made us feel like we were in the wrong for making a very reasonable request. After that, no one checked on us or asked if everything was okay. Meanwhile, we saw other tables being approached and looked after. My mother is elderly, and it was upsetting to see how we were ignored.

We’ve always supported this establishment and enjoyed coming here, but the quality of both food and service has noticeably declined. I’ve attached photos for reference. Sadly, unless things improve, we won’t be returning — and I would advise others to avoid ordering the jacket potatoes unless you want to be served a block of cheese with a side of attitude.

Customers deserve consistency.

Unfortunately, my recent experience was extremely disappointing and not something I’ll be returning for.

To begin with, the staff seemed untrained and unfamiliar with the menu — unable to answer basic questions or provide any helpful advice. When my order arrived, it was completely wrong. Items I specifically asked to be removed from the preset menu were instead added as extras.

After pointing this out, the replacement still wasn’t correct — I was served a different omelet with toppings I never selected. When I raised the issue again, I was told that I hadn’t ordered correctly and should have been more specific. Frankly, it might help if the business focused on training their staff properly and hiring people with at least a basic level of English to ensure clear communication.

To add to the frustration, I ordered a coffee that never arrived even after 30 minutes, and requests for simple condiments like ketchup sauce and mayo were ignored.

What I ended up with was a rushed, poorly made omelet, oily chips, and once again, missing items like the hash brown. At that point, I gave up, ate a little, and left.

Went to this cafe on 22.3.22 during lunchtime. The English breakfast is tasty, well presented and generous portion. I was even allowed to substitute an item. The cafe is nice and clean. The young waitress was really lovely ,welcoming and always had a smile on her face. However, one negative thing stood out the most. A lady who was at front of house (blonde hair highlights)taking payment and serving drinks looked like she was part of management/ owners was really sad and moody. She neither said hello to us nor smiled when she was the first person we saw when we walked in and bye when we left. She left drinks on our table twice without saying anything. This was a real let down as it appeared that she didn't want to be there. The cafe wasn't busy at the time. This was my first visit with the wife, who has been there numerous times with her friends. She even tells me the service has gone down. Customer service is really important for me, so less stars due to this. Guys, you have a really good business and built a good reputation.
