A hidden gem, not too far from Ilford train station. Don't get it confused with the Great Western Ilford round the corner!
We stayed in an Apartment at The Best Western Greater London. We are a family of four and found having two separate bedrooms very handy although sharing a bathroom was a pain at times, it was fine.
Each room has a double bed with sofa bed (not made up for us but I'm sure if you had more people they would be - we used them as sofas), two chairs, coffee table, two bed side tables, a wardrobe, small cabinet, safe, vanity table, mirror, TV, kettle, radiator. Bathroom consists of toilet, sink, shower (large), small shelf and shaving outlet.
The rooms are very modern and clean. They have clearly been recently refurbished and look and feel fantastic. They are very fresh and modern. The beds are nice and firm and it is nice to have the sofa with a small table and the chairs as well. With so many take aways near by it means you can save a bit of money and eat in the room. There is also a balcony off the main bedroom which is nice, the room got quite hot so it was nice to be able to let fresh air in. It was unexpected to have a balcony and it was very clean and well maintained.
The rooms are spacious with good storage and a good sized dresser with plenty of plug sockets in different points in the room as well. There is a TV in each bedroom too with digital TV channels. The rooms also have tea and coffee making facilities.
However, there are a lack of amenities in the rooms, for example there is no hair dryer. I did ask for one at reception and they said they would sort one but this never materialised. It wasn't essential, so I didn't ask again so I am aware this is on me as I should have asked again - staff were nice enough I'm sure they just forgot. There is also no iron and no glasses for water. Additionally there are no lamps, either side or floor. This may seem like a strange thing to comment on, but only having one bright overhead light is not very comfortable. At night I like to read whilst my husband goes to sleep which I couldn't do due to only having the overhead light. I asked at reception if there was anything they could do and they said no (although did apologise that they couldn't help). This was the same in both rooms which I found a bit odd as every hotel room I've ever stayed in had always had either a reading light or a lamp. However there was a switch right next to the bed to turn the big light off which was handy. I'd say this was the only negative.
The bathroom again was very modern and had clearly been recently refurbished also. The shower was good and powerful and the head was detachable from the wall which is always a bonus for me. There was complementary hand wash, body wash and shampoo in the bathroom. It was very clean on arrival and the toilet roll was replenished daily. We also got some clean towels every day if we needed them.
We had breakfast included with our stay. The breakfast was nice and had a variety of food. There was a selection of hot food including eggs, hash brown, sausage and baked beans. There was then a selection of cold foods. This varied from day to day but generally included some fruits, some cold grilled peppers, tomatoes and aubergine. Some raw tomatoes and cucumber. One day we had cold pancakes and some different tinned fruits. Every day they had a choice of muselli or cornflakes and a selection of yoghurts. There was always a selection of pastries although these varied each day. There was also bread to make toast and a good variety of jam. There was instant coffee and tea as well as both orange juice and apple juice to drink. The breakfast room was well maintained and clean and the staff member ensured that the tables were cleared away regularly.
The staff were all very friendly that we dealt with. We felt very well looked after and had no issues with any staff members. The lady who checked us in even took us to our apartment and showed us where things were and where to...
Read moreAttention: the place you will be located might not be where they advertised. There is a high chance they direct you to a dirty smelly apartment two streets away with dirty bed shits!!!Details:I travel for work very frequently and have stayed in many hotels in the past. I have never gave such a bad review and feedback to any hotel before but I have to do so now because what they did seems like fraud to me. I had a reservation for one night by them with advance payment. I arrived there at 20:00. A guy at the reception who was speaking Russian with the phone, told me sorry, we was not sure you will come or not and gave your room to someone else!!! And continued: but we have another place nearby which we will locate you!!!!! And it is while I had already paid for the room! And what made me very annoyed was that the guy said me we wrote you a message via trip.com three times to inform it and he was lying as I never received any message (trip.com can check it). And on the way he lied again and said you room had some maintenance issue and window has been brocken!!! (Very funny that they have anticipated this and reserved a full apartment for that). The guy said me the place is very near and the same room style (which was not true at all) but asked me before to give him my credit card and he charged it 100 pounds and said it is only security deposit and forced me to approve it via pin (which I have never experienced also before). I had no chance than accepting it. After all these, he brought me to a place which was roughly 5min on foot away and in a neighbouring street which looked not so beatiful (see photos attached). It was an old dirty and smelly apartment with many locals leaving there actually and one big sign of Big Western on that and two other next buildings which means they actually use it very often like this.I had no other choice and accepted to stay there although it looked really bad (see photos). Then and as the room really didn‘t seem clean at all, I decided to check carefully the bed shits and found that the other side of all of them (pillow, blanket and bed) which was not visible by first look, had several staints and hair pieces on them and was quite dirty and not washed (I took a video of them). They only had flipped them down to hide the unclean part.I asked the reception of that building to come and see and replace the bed shits with clean ones. The guy went back and came back after 15 minutes and apologised for not having clean shits and suggested that we go to a new room.In the new room and in from of him, I checked the other side of pillow and blankets again and they also were dirty and the guy saw it but had no solution. The only option I had was to sleep on a small bed which was 90cm width and not as dirty as the double ones. The next day and after all these, I was hoping that I at least can have a good breakfast (although I had to go for it to the initial building which was 5 min away) but the reception said sorry you have no breakfast in your reservation!!!! It made me really mad and also took 5 minutes until the guy could find it.The breakfast itself was very limited (only a small bench seen in attached photo) and only British style but Islamic version (Turkey instead of bakon). Drinks were not juce but those cheap ones you make with powder and water mixing. And what made me much more unhappy was that there was no fresh coffee but instead, only hot water and packs of quick mix powder coffee which had a very bad quality and taste (at least it could be a Nescafe gold). Now I have the feeling that I have been cheated to stay in a very bad apartment and pay...
Read moreMy family recently stayed in room 204 at the Best Western Greater London, from July 7-11.
You could miss the place, as it blends in so easily with its neighbourhood, and its frontage is combined with neighbouring shops.
We were visiting from Canada, and, having mostly traveled in the States and other cities in Canada, the room was small compared to North America (but fully as-described, so there was no issue in that regard). We had two large suitcases, a kid's suitcase, and a couple of backpacks, and we managed with the available space.
No matter the time of day, the friendly staff was ready to help with needs like keeping items cool or frozen for us (as rooms don't have mini fridge/freezers). One of the team (one of the managers?), Gonzalo, even personally came to handle a couple of small problems with the Wi-Fi and an unexpected odour from the toilet. They also stored our bags on our last day, so we could tour unencumbered.
A small issue notable in the room is that quite a few plastic screw covers have been broken, but not replaced. I hope they'll fix that soon (and, maybe, suggest that maintenance inspect other rooms' washrooms for this issue). It's mostly an aesthetic issue, but clean, smooth surfaces tend to look nicer than broken caps, covers, etc. More inconvenient is the lack of sufficient shelf space in the washroom. I kept my toiletries bag on the window ledge, but was constantly worried it (or some of the items I was carrying) would fall out of the downward facing-window.
This was also the first time (that I can remember) I had ever experienced a hotel without air conditioning. Once again, we knew this when we booked, so there was no issue there. We just happened to have a couple of particularly hot nights during our stay, and the included desk fans only JUST did the job. My recommendation to future guests is to have that in mind during the warmer months.
Overall, BW Greater London was nothing MORE than I would expect from the Best Western nameplate, and nothing less. I can easily recommend it, if you want to stay somewhere close to the London Underground (it was a 4-minute walk at our pace), and prices further into the city have your eyes bulging out of your head. Most days only took us about 40-60 minutes to get into the...
