I tried this venue for the first time yesterday and had high hopes for the food with it being a new place in town to try. Sadly it missed the mark, the wait time was extremely long ~25 mins standing for it when I was told it would only be 9 mins, which I believe the owner noted and threw in a side of peas and curry sauce for - very kind of him to do so. I had asked for the fish and chips to be fresh (ie straight from the oil into my bag) and whilst I’m aware it’s made to order, I believe because of how busy it was my meal was left on the side for a while whilst they finished with other customers. I was told the chips would be held off till the fish is ready so it’s all hot together, again because of how busy it was they did not do this. My home is about 3 minutes from the shop so it should have been piping hot, but unfortunately was not the case. The chips were just warm and quite hard, the fish batter soggy with the fish overcooked. I do hope they find a balance with quality in every meal. Maybe organising the service could help or allowing those that ordered first to get seen first, I noted that there were customers that came after me who were being tended to whilst my order was on the side. They took some time with their order being salted, packed and confirmed as there were quite a few items. Overall disappointment for...
Read moreI usually frequent Brothers Fish and Chips as it’s conveniently located at the top of my road. However, while driving past Gants Hill, I decided to pop into Mother Hubbard’s, especially since they had a tempting offer. I’m so glad I did!
The service was absolutely exceptional. From the moment we walked in, the staff were welcoming, attentive, and made us feel right at home. The level of care and professionalism really stood out.
As for the food, it was nothing short of amazing. My kids—who are notoriously picky eaters and usually very loyal to our local spot—were blown away. They declared it "the best fish and chips they’ve ever had," which, coming from them, speaks volumes. The batter was crispy, the fish was perfectly cooked, and the chips were golden and fluffy inside. Everything tasted fresh and flavorful.
We thoroughly enjoyed not just the food but also the overall experience. The atmosphere was warm and inviting, and it was clear that every detail had been considered to make customers feel comfortable.
I highly recommend Mother Hubbard’s to anyone craving delicious fish and chips. Whether you’re a local or just passing by, it’s well worth a visit. We’ll...
Read moreI came here a few nights ago. The store wasn't busy. There was 1 person working in the back and two at the front.
When placing the order Fish n Chips, I wasn't asked about the salt and vinegar. It's only when I remembered I thought I'd better tell the server, but then someone else was being served, so I had to interrupt, which made me stand out a bit.
The chips were not too old, but not freshly fried. They had been their for a short while 5 or more minutes, but the fish was freshly made as with other branches. The server was picking out black fried chips by hand, some might object to that.
I've been to a few Mother hubbards, the branch in Sheffield so far have served the tastiest really succulent fresh fish with an amazing batter however again their chips could have been better, as they tend to store their chips and make larger quantities.
This store inside isn't well set, compare that to Sheffield where its really well presented with salt n vinegar on every table very neatly kept.
Also this store is hard to locate at night as the signage is not luminated.
Overall the food here is better than another local chippy that has recently dropped down...
