We moved into the area a year ago now, and have only been to Bambuni a couple of times, even though there really is no competition in Nunhead. I believe that competition keeps businesses on their toes - to deliver good products with great customer service to loyal local customers - something that I feel isn't happening at Bambuni!
Went last weekend with the family and spent over £20 on snacks and coffee. Yes, the snacks and coffee are overpriced and not the best that south east London has to offer, but when its your local this doesn't always matter. Unless customer service is bad, and unfortunately this was frosty to the point of frozen! If you enjoy sullen waitresses forgetting your food, glaring moodily at you when you enquire, and aggressively at you whilst you slurp your cappucino then this might be the joint for you.
We told the proprietor what happened when paying up - to which he replied 'sorry, that's what young people are like today' - no further action to be taken apparently! Next time we'll head a little further afield to the great London Particular or the brilliant new Cafe 178, where service and quality are not old...
Read moreWe’ve been going to Mother superior for a while , it’s our neighborhood go to for a good selection of natural wine. But recently we’ve been sold white wine as Red twice!! That’s the basic knowledge that stuff should have isnt it? We planned our dinner and went to buy a Red pet nat. We specifically asked your staff at the till if it’s red and she checked on the till and confirmed it is RED pet nat. Went back home opened the wine for our Lumb roast , it was white! it was not cheep ( £28 a bottle) and we bought two! It was such a disappointment and disaster. We will close our eyes for once but this happened twice now. Never mind the staff hardly knew what the wine tastes like. So… unfortunately we will have to give up going to you. There are other shops that put themselves into selecting their wines and produce and can explain every single bottle what it is, how it tastes. Sorry you lost us. Too much hype lost the touch of what...
Read moreI'd expected better. Went in for lunch mid-week. Started with staff not knowing what one item on the menu was when i asked. "I dunno. That's just what it's called". The second item i asked about on the lunch menu was not ready yet (at 1pm), so went for the soup. Tasty enough but really over-seasoned and buttered, as was the (albeit generous) toasted bread. Soup was luke warm. But the range of goods on sale looks impressive! Independent wines, pasta produce and fresh delicatessen goods. But as i look around, i notice my plate still hasn't been removed after about 20 mins (it is not busy). Oh, and what dreadful music. Really quite loud rock music! Don't get that at all. May return to shop, but not...
