đ Nunhead đşÂ ÂŁ6.60 Sonar Session IPA
The Old Nunâs Head is one of three pubs located on Nunhead Green just south of Peckham in Southeast London. The nearest station is Nunhead, itâs ten minute walk to get here.
This pub dates from the early 18th century, the present Tudor-style building dates from 1934. The pub remained closed for several years at the start of the 21st century and reopened in 2007, it is now run by Brighton brewers Laine.
The decor here is traditional and retains many original period features whilst adding a few contemporary touches here and there. This is a one bar pub with a central servery which is accessible from three adjoining rooms. The walls are clad is stunning wood panels which continue around in every room. The seating is a mix of traditional tables and chairs, leather banquettes and an original 1930âs booth. In homage to the pubâs name there is a colourful mural of a nun as well as a couple of nun inspired artworks. At the back of the pub is a partially covered courtyard beer garden and also a large pavement seating area at the front.
The beer selection offers a mix of mainstream brews, craft and cask options plus a range of @lainebrewco beers. I decided to try out the Sonar Session IPA, my pint was great if a little pricey. The food menu is Burgers and Hotdogs with a choice of fries and sides, roasts are available on a Sunday.
We arrived around 1.30pm on a sunny Saturday lunchtime in July. The main bar was fairly quiet with the majority of punters sat at the front of the pub. The atmosphere was laidback with a local pub feel. The pub host Karaoke and live events and livens up of an evening. The service was on point, the team member who served us was welcoming and pleasant.
Lots of positives to take away from @theoldnunshead . I loved the interwar decor and period features. The pub had a calming vibe and a broad range of beers. Not too shabby indeed, worth a look if youâre in the area.

Read moreThis was a fantastic traditional Sunday roast lunch at an anything but traditional pub in Nunhead, SE London.
Being Easter Sunday, we both opted for the roast lamb shoulder - it came with a crazy amount of gravy, really crisp roast potatoes and Yorkshire puddings and a really broad selection of delicious vegetables too. As it was Easter, we also saved room for the hot cross bun doughnut for dessert which was really tasty!
Service was quick and friendly but we didnât feel rushed to vacate our table on a busy lunch service. The staff also went out of their way to accommodate our requests for dining with the baby - ie a smaller kidsâ portion of food for less money and a high chair. I should say the portion was still massive which gave us an opportunity to try the delicious roast chicken too đ¤¤
I would definitely recommend this as a great local eats spot in SE London and plan to return one Sunday soon to explore the rest of the roast dinner options on the menu.
Book in advance to avoid disappointment and go early so you get the full selection of dishes to...
Read morePlanned this Sunday roast two weeks ago, I was really hyped about it because I was really looking forward to trying their veggie haggis (even as a carnivore). When we were ordering, I found out theyâve ran out of veggie haggis⌠so I resorted to lamb. It was only 2pm when they ran out đ
When me and my partner received our plates (after the rest of the table have been served ) , I found out our parsnips been replaced by cheesy cauliflower mash! I love parsnips so I was a little disappointed⌠and the roast potatoes been covered up by the mash which meant theyâre soggy.
On top of that, my roasted lamb were in scraps, while I see other table (from earlier orders) had big slices of meat.
The food themselves were tasty but I was rather disappointed by the experience, and I also saw similar issues w the inconsistent servings from previous reviews.
Hopefully these inconsistencies could be resolved...
