Hey, this place doesn't need photos. One of the first to visit this branch, am the first to review. They have branches in Wembley, Raynes Lane, Harrow and now this place in Queensbury, Google it. On their opening day, lunch time 17th March 2020 I made my visit. Although there are many food outlets nearby, I decided let's try this new place.
Parking is there, but first come first basis on the service roads. Good thing it's free. Just be patient. There are other side roads if you don't mind walking short distance.
Large shop front so you cant miss it, last one on the parade. Thr entrance has two doors before entering the restaurant. Helpful to dry off or keep the wind away. Warm welcome from staff opening the second entrance door.
There were two different menus, depending on whether I ate in or did takeaway. As it wasn't busy and first day, I settled to eat in.
Nice and long, not so wide with one side their kitchen and serving area. Other, with leather material booth style seating against the wall and other side of tables, leather chairs.
Excellent decor as I walk to the rest room at the back end of resturant. Enter the toilets and saw fabulous modern finish . The usual facility but also a towel rail/rad and Hooks for hanging excess clothing to show attention to detail. One toilet per sex plus disabled toilet. So make sure visit early as to not disappoint.
Sat down, looked at the sophisticated menu, not just plastic folded but with a cover. Straight away came a jug of water with slice of lime along with ambli (Tamarind) chutney and a lili (mint and coriander) in small China pots. Starter plates already on table.
Went through the list. Me being hindu gujarati, went straight for the thali accompanied with salted lassi (yogurt) . It is different everyday of the the two curries which is decided by the chef, so if you thinking on ordering it and don't want to be disappointed, ring in and ask. The rest of the items are set. Today was bhindi and makhni panees, punjabi style. I have that always but I wanted my gujarati food, Indian flat bread, roti or we guj say rotli (staple food), daal, rice, sweet dessert dish called Siro (wheat version slowly cooked, hot water, sugar cane added for sweetness topped up with almond pieces. Other ingredients included. It was basically very thoughtful to think of guest of all nations and very importantly the kids.
He recommended the Chaat list, but I wasn't feeling it. Though the toastie caught my eyes remembering me of when I was on my trips to pilgrims stopping at services on route while in india. I did order later.
Along came the thali. Cutlery and condiments already on the table. I went straight in tasting each item. Wow... Sweet dish was exactly how us gujarati make it... Sambaro (cabbage and chillies, little mild, but other dish were sweet and spicy. Popaddoms not your usual Indian resturant style large ones but gujarati style pieces. Bhindi nice, just a tad oily. But in fairness to get rid of the bitter okra, it needs to be drowned in either that, yogurt, tomatoes or lemon. Daal and rice again not too overpowering and spicy. Makhni paneer is a dish of excellent, again I didn't feel for it as it normally goes with naan or flavoured rice. A small portion of home made plain yogurt to accompany spicy dish. Perfected Roti (aka chapatti) is known when made home and eaten regularly. I should have been asked if I liked it with butter/ghee or just plain. It was cooked on high which dried out the roti slightly. Small spoonful of mango pickle. Finished everything including the chutney.
Then, to my liking, ordered the cheese chilli and cucumber toastie. Excellent, but I forgot to add tomatoes. That was washed down with nimbu pani (se menu). Last but not least a masala chai or tea. Enjoyed it all and not a drop of leftover. It was gone past 3pm as they close between 3-5pm, but did not rush me. Paid at the counter. Gladly spoke to the lady owner and took a complimentary mouth refresher. A little dear to compared to...
Read moreMumbai Local used to be one of my favourites but not at all anymore. The food taste and quality have consistently gone down since few months. The portion sizes they offer for the main course are ridiculously small. The prizes for all the curries is similar to other restaurants in the area but the quantity is unbelievably small and nearly half the size.
The customer service is appalling and the staff are so rude and arrogant. I visited last week on Wednesday to the Queensbury branch as a group of 6. The restaurant was half empty. On arrival we were asked if we had made a booking. I wasn’t sure as half of our group had arrived separately as we had decided to meet there. Hence I said to the person in charge of taking the booking that I wasn’t sure and informed him that if we booked it would be under so and so’s name. He didn’t had any patience to let me complete my sentence and started shouting that can you tell me if you have booked or not as we are very busy. Kept on repeating again and again we are very busy and that we should have booked. This was quite surprising as the restaurant was half empty. Obviously, we were straight away given the table. Also, till the time we left no new customers came in so I fail to understand what was the need to yell about them being busy.
In the end we asked for some container for left overs and the lady very rudely gave us the boxes as if literally throwing them in our face and said “TAKE IT”.
Never visiting this place again or any of their other branches as we had a similar experience at the wembley branch as well. I am pretty sure the restaurant will be closed down very soon with this kind of poor customer service. We were treated as if we were homeless beggars and came to eat for free. Disgusting...
Read moreDO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME WITH THIS PLACE. Plenty of better options available on the same road. We had a booking for 5 people. The table they gave us meant we had to sit in a line along a long sofa. We could not speak to each other whilst having dinner. We asked if we could be seated on another table so that we could have a conversation during our dinner but the staff said that they were booked and we could not move. There were at least 4 tables free which we could have moved to. We ended up having to leave. We cancelled the poppadoms but they still brought them out as we were about to leave. Ended having to pay for them as I could not be asked to argue with these people. I politely tried to give feedback to a lady who appeared to be a manger whilst I paid for our £33 bill for drinks and poppadoms and her response was classic. She said that I am not responsible for the design of the restaurant... What can I do? To which I responded... you could have reseated us on the empty tables. They could have allowed us to put a chair opposite so that we could enjoy our dinner together. They could have actually cancelled the poppadoms or at least not charged us but to then not even apologise was not good hospitality. The staff did not care at all about our feedback or experience and were deflective. Typical of what you would expect for staff that have no real training. These people have no care or passion for what they do so I would advise everyone to steer clear and not waste your time or money. We ended up going next door to Dawat and they were awesome. If the owners want to get in touch please do. I don't like to say this but we had a disabled person in our party and it was incredible for your staff not to have a little understanding or...
