We went to this restaurant for our 1 year anniversary. It was special occasion and we have been decided to come here for something special. Although the dishes were amazing, it was very disappointing as we had to wait for 1h for the special sushi roll when all the people who came after us were having food. I used to work as floor staff at Japanese restaurant so I understand you forget orders sometimes and it’s okay we are all human. But 1h is too much and if you forget, you would have to come to the customer, explain the reason why and apologize. That’s basic service I expect at restaurants. There was 1 floor staff and 2 or 3 kitchen chef. And 1 staff from kitchen was helping floor staff. However, No one was paying attention to customers, they were too busy carrying dishes. Honestly, considering the size of the restaurant, you could handle it way better. As floor staff, you always have to pay attention to customers behavior and forecast what they want next. The price we pay is not only food but the service as well. You have to predict customers move and take proactive steps. Moreover, the dishes in general were tiny. Don’t get me wrong, the food tasted amazing, but expect you would have to leave the restaurant still being hungry if you have tight budget. Those two points contributed to my disappointment, I live few minutes away but wouldn’t come back here...

Went there seeing so many good reviews but really disappointed at the lunch service and the overall experience was awful.

Where to start? Well, I booked the table for three persons at lunch. When we arrived, the table we offered there was already someone else’s glass of water sitting there! Most of the items recommended in the review or there is the website menu is missing, specially the sushi/sashimi options except some handrolls only. If we knew it, probably never come for the lunch.

The biggest thing is the place was not yet full, but the person who took our order was distracted and messed up the handrolls we ordered, sent the totally wrong ones! Forgot an entire bento box, and we were only a party of 3! Food took extremely long time to arrive. Even after pursuing 2-3 times, (the server seemed completely lost ) when the bento box arrived they didn’t give the miso soup as written in the menu. At that point I didn’t even bother to ask!

The food was decent but the service is awful. Will not return and will not recommend to...

We visited MyUmami for a family meal on a Friday night and it's easy to tell that it's popular - people who hadn't booked had to leave empty-bellied (although you can eat at the counter).

There's a good reason for this popularity which is that the food is downright excellent. It's fresh, beautifully presented and absolutely bursting with flavour (apart from the boiled rice but how can you make that interesting?).

We very much enjoyed our mixture of sushi and cooked dishes with the only caveat being that we didn't leave feeling quite full enough (and our budget couldn't quite stretch to another round of dishes).

Apart from this, and the slightly slow service due to there being perhaps one less waiter than would be ideal, we all remarked on what an excellent meal we'd enjoyed at MyUmami. For a restaurant in a slightly unpromising location they're doing pretty much...

Booked at the bar on a Friday night - as all other tables were already booked - great sign in my opinion. Glad we did as we got to see some of the specialities made in front of us. Salmon set - fresh and high quality. Spicy tuna rolls delicious. Beef carpaccio - super tasty. Actually couldn’t fault the food. This is a small restaurant with minimal covers - and you can see the chefs are passionate about the Japanese fusion they are serving. Only been open for a few months - but can see it won’t take long before this becomes a favourite with many in the local area.

Wonderful new addition to East Finchley. We'd been lacking Japanese since the loss of Yama Yama a few years ago - sadly missed. This new addition, complete with Robata grill, is exciting. The food was lovely. Fresh, tasty, interesting and creative with high quality ingredients and self prepared sauces - I think.. Dumplings and skewers were the standouts but I'll be back to work through the rest of the menu.
