I'll start of with the positives, because they are so few. Service was quick, nice decor, pleasant staff and prices are reasonable. The taquitos were nice, as was the rice and drinks.
Management at the time and after were attentive, which is a big positive. They refunded part of the meal at the time we complained about and the rest after further contact (without us asking and unbeknownst to us). Makes it a shame that the meal was so poor, when the management are nice professional people, that genuinely care.
I usually like to give the benefit of the doubt, as some people tend to be too negative with reviews and hard to please. Most of the hundreds of reviews I give here are positive, but I really can't give one here. I don't why this place is highly rated, but again, maybe it was an off day.
The negatives, well the mains were bland. Underwhelmingly so. The enchiladas had no taste or texture, just sour cream. I have no idea what the chicken was supposedly marinated in. I've had better microwave enchiladas from Asda, which is poor and quite damning. Maybe it was just an off day, after speaking to management a few days later.
Fish tacos weren't up to much either, nothing like Wahacca (now I know there is a difference between tex mex and Mexican street food. However, they're comparable). I've had tex mex in Texas, so while I don't expect the same, I know what Tex Mex is.
The quesadillas on the other table look nice, but they are hard to mess up. The tortilla chips look okay as well. We did order some, but they never arrived (wasn't fussed about that, as that happens in every restaurant). When asked, they were taken off the bill. Again, the staff and management were pleasant, so it is solely a poor quality food issue on the day. I like to try and be positive, so maybe it could've been a bad batch. But I can only comment on what I ate, which was so disappointing after seeing the...
Read moreI’ve been a regular customer at D Grande and have always enjoyed the food and welcoming atmosphere. However, my recent experience was deeply disappointing and has made me question whether I can continue supporting this restaurant.
On 17th May, between 7:30 and 8:00 PM, I went to D Grande and waited inside the restaurant as I was craving takeout. Though I was clearly a customer—dressed casually in red Puma shoes, shorts, a green shirt, sunglasses, and a cycling helmet—I was completely ignored by a black-haired female staff member. There were delivery drivers nearby in uniform, but I did not resemble them in any way.
Shortly after I arrived, a white family of three came in and were acknowledged and seated immediately bypassing myself who had been waiting there. I remained standing in full view, unacknowledged, until all the delivery drivers had left. Only then did a blonde male staff member approach me and ask if I needed help.
This experience left me feeling racially profiled and dismissed—ignored not because of confusion, but because of assumptions made about me, particularly as an Asian man. It was upsetting and hurtful, especially coming from a place I’ve supported and recommended to others.
I emailed info@dgrandetexmex.com with this feedback and gave the restaurant a full week to respond before posting this review. As of now, I’ve received no reply.
I hope D Grande takes this seriously and reflects on how subtle but damaging acts of discrimination can alienate loyal customers. I’d love to return and continue supporting the restaurant, but that can only happen if I know every guest is treated with equal dignity...
Read moreWe were really looking forward to some TexMex after a long day of sight-seeing, so we searched for Mexican in the area and found this place, after reading the mainly positive reviews. Having experienced fabulous portions and very tasty TexMex at Buffalo American Grill and TexMex in Greenwich, we were really looking forward to the same here. Unfortunately, we were quite disappointed with the food. I ordered the chicken burrito, and my partner had the chicken enchiladas, which came with rice and re-fried beans (as ordered). We also ordered a side of tortilla chips with salsa. When the waitress asked what kind of beans I wanted I thought she was asking about my side for the burrito…alas, no such luck. For £16 the burrito stands alone. And, unfortunately, it’s about the size of what might just about satisfy an eleven year old…not an adult. It’s also served wrapped in foil in a basket…like one might order from a street food take-away stand. The enchiladas were served in a modest sized oved dish drowned in the sour cream sauce with two jalapeno slices on top. The rice was saltless, as were the beans. We had to ask for salt to prevent the food being totally tasteless. I needed plenty of hot sauce to make the burrito interesting. The salsa for the chips was tasty, however. The setting was also very nice as we sat outside taking in the atmosphere, and the staff was friendly and helpful, however the space between the tables (and the table sizes) was quite cramped. I think this is what the high prices is for…certainly not the food. We didn’t try the cocktails, but they...
