Went to the PT couple of times in the past and found place always o.k. when it comes to food.
Yesterday (23rd nov ) went there again for a glass of wine and a âdinnerâ
We ordered two glasses of malbec, bread and olives followed by fish and chips and a burger.
Wine was good.
When bread arrived it was tasteless and sweet. No texture whatsoever. Itâs either someone didnât mix in any salt at all , didnât knead it properly , didnât prove it long enough. Or all of the above. Or just went and bought the cheapest bread like thing there is. Olives were sweet and sour?
We laughed it off as you canât be serious when it comes to such a trivial thing ad bread and olives, canât you ?
When the mains arrived ... the whole food experience was takes to the next level!
My burger was burned and cold in the same time( how ? ) No relish/sauce on the COLD bun that was nowhere near heat since it was baked - neither toasted or warmed up...just a roll straight from the fridge... Sweet potato fries turned out to be dipped in cold oil, soggy, tasteless sticks of no texture, not seasoned at all.
Fish and chips looked a bit âtiredâ probably couple of minutes too long in the deep fryer. Tartare sauce had a chunks of gherkins size of a cherries and that 1 teaspoon of mushy peas was a joke.
Shambles.
I know that to cook chips/burger and making a tartare sauce you need to be at least Ferran AdriĂ or RenĂ© Redzepi but whoever âcooksâ food - sorry not going to call him a chef - needs to either think again about life choices or simply start trying food is being send. Or just go for a very long vacations. Far away. Or open a cookbook and read it.
When told about my âexperienceâ to a bartender, he pretty much ignored me while taking payment and continued chatting some girls at the bar. When paid he basically told me that he couldnât be bothered as theyâre renting kitchen out to someone and itâs not their problem. Ah yes he said sorry later.
ÂŁ60 for a very disappointing âmealâ.
Highly recommend to avoid this place for food. At...
Read moreVery Disappointed with our visit today i wish i took photos but i was so hungry we just went somewhere else and gave the food back.
i came all the way from Reading and my sis from Hatfield for a taste of home and our steaks looked like they had been boiled. No smokey smell/taste and both didnât have braai lines and were overcooked after asking for medium. Letâs not even speak about the service- we had to go to the till to order. When food came we complained and the waiter told us they were done on a âlow heat fireâ BUT the meat didnât even smell of smoke at best they were cooked in the oven.
The Boerewors had that water meat gives out when itâs cooked in a pan and NOT on a grill. It didnât even have that golden brown glaze bbq meat gets i have no words in english to explain. The chips were oven baked⊠not even fried. For that price⊠the only thing that tasted as though it had been grilled was the broccoli. Having been to Hammer and Tongs multiple times and the Park Tavern a couple of times, this was very disappointing and there wasnât any sign it would be rectified. No incentive nothing the waiter just tried to tell us its cooked a different way but that is NOT BRAAI at best it was basic pub food. We just paid for our drinks and left the food.
If you are offering braai food then please sell braai food - we are Southern Africans and we know what braai is- it was very condescending to be told itâs cooked in a different way bla bla bla no Braai is braai, what we were served today was NOT that and please UPDATE the menus on your website. The menu in the pub doesnât reflect this at all. Happy to pay high price for real braai food but not oven chips and boiled steak. Wonât be returning again or recommending to anybody. The photos on instagram are false advertisement the food does not look like that anymore.Food and service has deteriorated with each visit. but at least the food used to make up for it now itâs...
Read moreI went here on Fri 14 May whilst covid rules only allowed Rule of 6 outdoor seating. My review is just on that particular night and perhaps not a reflection of normal running - so bear that in mind.
My friend and I arrived at 17:30 and ordered a drink via their bespoke app, which although we have the same model phone didn't work for me. When the first round eventually arrived after quite a long wait one of the drinks wasn't what we ordered, which when pointed out to staff was replaced quickly and without hassle. Because of the delay in our first round we jokingly started a timer for our second, which took exactly 20 min to arrive, and the third round took 32 minutes! We were there till 20:40ish and only had 3 rounds, including the wait for our first round I would say over half our time at the pub was spent waiting for our drinks to turn up.
It wasn't just our table either, a quick look round us and we could only see around one out of every three or four tables with drinks on them - the pub was clearly missing out on lots of money by people not having drinks on tables. The evening was in stark comparison to other places I've been to since pubs reopened where service from app to table was a few minutes - certainly with no noticeably long wait.
Another thing to point out, and perhaps an indicator that this wasn't a one-off evening of bad service, was that at no point did any staff member apologise for the delay in processing drinks order or offer an explanation if there was one (e.g. broken glasswasher) - we, and I assume others, were just left to wait.
I won't say I will never come back here as other reviews (perhaps in times of normal non-covid service?) are pretty good, and it looked nice inside, however, I will not be coming back until the rules change and drinks can be purchased direct...
